We have recently purchased a pennine sterling and are new to camping. The camper does not have full electrics and we want to run the fridge off the 240v rather than use gas or 12v battery.Could anybody give me an idea of the price to have the electrics put in and two double sockets, and recommend anywhere to have this done,we live in west midlands thanks.Rob & Gillian

I'd be inclined to buy a camping three way plug for around £50 and put it on the base of the bed box. Far cheaper and will do the job. The fridge is the only catch but really are you likely to use £450 of gas?

why not fit the electrics yourself. towsure do a kit that gives you all the instruction that you need including the mains inlet socket. I have just done my folding caravan and basicaly if you can wire a three pin plug its that easy, and im no electriction.

hi rob and gillian.

i,m an electrician and to do a job like you want would be approx £100 for the basic system.

you could do it yourself, but make sure you get someone who is qualified to check the system over. to many people think electrical wiring is easy, some is ,but is it safe.

i,m not trying to put you of saving money, but i have seen a lot of do it yourself wiring which is not safe, but the installer thinks it was.

also will your insurance cover you if god forbid anything happens, and you do not have an inspection certificate. why not have a go yourself and then pay an electrician to check it.

hope i was a help sorry about going on,but its better to be safe than sorry.

jason

This thread is 100 years old. I think prices might have risen since then.

We bought a sterling with home fitted electrics.
The worrying thing though was a socket had been fitted in the front box, next to a home fitted battery box, AND the gas !

We blanked the socket off, too dangerous to use.
The battery isn't used either. We used the gas, and internal electric sockets (2)
