I waterproofed the canvas on our Trigano 415 folding camper before going away for spring bank holiday with Thompson water sealer. We have found that the canvas has since become quite dirty including some strange white stains. I think that the canvas is now very slightly tacky since it was proofed which may be attracting marks. Is this a problem anyone else has suffered from? If so, is there a way of cleaning the canvas without compromising the waterproofing?
We left it about 7 hours after proofing before folding it down. I only gave it 1 coat, but managed to use 5 litres after only doing 3 sides of it(the instructions did say give it a good dosing!). The next time it was out it was drenched within 12 hours of being put up last weekend!
24 hours to air out would have been better. The general rule of thumb is to leave it up till all the smell has aired off. If you put on a really thick coat it might not have been 100% dry in places and the white streaks caused by whatever solvent chemical it uses not being able to evaporate properly.
Thanks for that Val. I don't suppose there is any easy way to clean it now. Not sure what the dark marks are though - not mud as this brushes out quite well. Looks almost oily
When I waterproofed my Combi it left some "tidemarks" where the fluid had started to dry out in places as I worked my way down, I think it probably "washed down" some of the dirt accumulated over the years. Maybe I should have washed it thoroughly first. It's not that noticeable and adds character I reckon.

If you can't see the light at the end of the tunnel, just keep going till you go round the bend.
we did our trigano with thompsons and left it for about 36 hours before folding it down but i did notice that the following morning there were white marks on it but before packing it away the marks had all but disappeared we havnt used it since so dont know about any dirty marks
