We have a Comanche Montana bought second-hand and the mattresses never get damp. The bed base is solid ply, but there's a sheet of material under each mattress which allows air to circulate efficiently.
I can best describe this stuff as a sort of biscuit of springy hair-like fibres which are held together with tiny globules of latex-like glue. I guess it's some sort of upholstery stuffing; it's about 25mm thick and of an open weave which aids the airflow. Imagine black curly Shredded Wheat, loosely dismembered and laid out in a rectangle of uniform thickness and you'll get the idea.
I don't know if this is standard Comanche kit or a bit of clever improvisation by the previous owner, but it works!
I put sheets of leftover flooring underlay under mine (solid ply floor) which works really well. I like the sound of black curly shredded wheat so must look out for some of that!!
