We're coming back into the camping fold after a few years off for one reson or another, we have a Sunncamp TT which has developed some small mildew patches, a search on the web has shown an advertisement on UKC for Oggie Tent Cleaner and Reproofer, has anybody used it, is it any good ???
Alternatively what other suggestions for treating and cleaning mildew.
We had some mildew on one of the bedroom liners on our fc. After doing a search on ukcs I found out that milton was good, which is used to sterilise baby's bottles. We tried it last weekend and it worked, took the mildew off straight away. The fabric we used it on was very light cream though, not sure if it would lighten darker fabric.
I clean boats for a living & have to deal with mildew all the time on the interior headlinings. The best thing to use is Dettox mould & mildew remover (available in any supermarket). Put the tent up & do a test patch first, wait a few mins & then if the colour hasn't bleached out just squirt a dollop on the affected areas - it will just disappear. After treating you can wash off with fresh water (I just leave it) & then if nec reproof with Fabisil.
We had a TT and folding camper for many years, never suffered from mildew on the TT but did so on the FC- we put the unit up, washed the material first with a canvas cleaner then used a diltue Milton and a hand/nail brush to do all the area. Leave to dry completely and then you should use a waterproofer-we always used Fabsil. Bought a huge tin and then we have plenty even for other things. It is advised to do more than the initial area because the spores in the mildew grow rapid and they need to be stopped. We were left with some little black dots but they say that you stop it from growing but you never get rid of the marks. Another tip for you is--at the end of the season when you put everything away- unclip the bedroom departments, wash them in the washer and add some Milton to the rinsing water, this stops any effect via the canvas. Good luck Gary
Oh- sorry forgot to add--you should ALWAYS protect the windows when waterproofing. Once you have done everything use a good household polish and a duster to do the windows-works brilliantly. Gary
I had alot of mildrew on my Vango Diablo 600. Put tent up, brush mildrew, then mix milton fluid with water in squeezy bottle. Spray to effected area and leave to dry. I only did the inner so there was no need to re-seal etc. Previously read on this site that once it gets hold it can go through the whole tent, also not good for your chest. The milton will kill the pores and prevent spreading. It definately works, easy to do and cheap to buy. I have had no problems since. Good Luck.
