ps we have 2 bikes
I know what you are thinking of, but just be careful as there often isn't enough room on the A frame to allow the vehicle to turn with bikes on. A fridge box is considerably less wide than most bikes are long, as well!
I guess it depends on how many, and how big the bikes are, as well as depth of your A frame.
Weight of trailer, mine has 100Kg of luggage capacity, this includes awning, gas bottles, leisure battery & all the other items you stuff in.
Nose weight, your car & trailer both have a limit for this.
Your insurance is invalid if you exceed the manufacturers figures for either. Take the trailer to a weigh bridge to see if you have any spare capacity. I have just spent nearly £400 replacing the Indi-suspension units on my trailer as the clearance between the wheels & wheel arches had got so small the tyres were nearly touching.
To check nose weight place the jockey wheel on your bathroom scales (or use a gauge from a caravan shop). I got a horrible shock with mine as my car has a limit of 50Kg, the trailer was SUPPHOSED to be 30Kg, it turned out to be nearer 75Kg, largely due to the battery & gas bottles in a box on the A frame.
Some TTS are also unbraked, that results in a much lower max weight limit than the bigger tin tents (750kg max loaded or less depending on your car)
Loading too much too far behind the rear axle is possibly the quickest way of getting a snake started. Weight sohould be distributed as close to the axle as possible, with a slight bias to ensure correct noseweight
Hi, I've now made the bike rack. I used an old alloy frame to make it and it fits the "A" frame perfectly. It does not hinder the turning circle of the car and the nose weight is not affected as long as you pack the trailer sensibly. The cost to make it was under £15.
It is 53" wide x 13" deep x 21" high and sits 4" from the trailer on the A frame. There are two grooves fitted to the underside to stop it moving, and it is then bolted to the A frame. The pedals have to be removed from the bike nearest to the trailer to allow it to fit correctly as to not impeed the turning of the vehicle. I tow with a Mondeo.
