Hi has anybody any advice about tv aerials on a folding camper? There are ones which attach to the jockey wheel and as our camper is a hard top I presume I could fit a  screw on caravan saucer type aerial. If anyone has tried this successfully or can offer any advice I'd be grateful. Thanks.

Hi there, Ive also been thinking about using a tv ariel with my camper.I tried an indoor type but this was a pain in the butt. There are a host of fittings in the towsure catalogue, but these are not cheap. I`v got myself some old awning poles which I will attach an ariel to. (under £9 in screwfix catalogue) attach this to my awning with cable ties and run the lead inside. Sounds simple but yet to try it.

Having had bad TV reception on most of the sites ,in some cases no TV at all the picture was so bad ,I am now using one of those cheap £50 satellite systems , The quality of the picture has to be seen to be believed, sometimes better than the TV at home,I feel sorry that I dident get one earlier on ,The thought of messing with dishes and receivers to be set up  had previously put me off ,Its like every thing else it seems very daunting at first and then after acouple of set ups it becomes very easy and you wonder what all the fuss was about. From my own experiance I will never bother with aerials again.

Boy, I think we tried them all, inside, outside --- you name it. We bought a Satellite dish from Lidl - and apart from C4 and 5 we get perfect reception at long last.

I have to agree that the satellite route is the way to go. I bought the Maplin Suitcase system for £80, attached it to a pole mounted on a spare jockey wheel clamp on our TT and away we went. Using the the box provided we got all the free-to-air channels (as opposed to the free-to-view ones) and perfect reception. The real oddity of FTA is that you need a viewing card for channel 4 and channel 5 but Film 4 (and Film 4+1) are fine without it.

I went to loads of fuss a couple of years ago when we took the grown up kids for an aerial only to discover our tv worked well in Cornwall with an indoor aerial or the ordinary aerial laid on top the roof of the Dandy.

Took the pole and fittings back and got my money back.

For the last year I have used a Compact High Gain UHF TV Aerial from Towsure and a arial mast which fits to the jockey wheel, again this was from Towsure.  I have only travelled around east anglia but have been able to get all 5 channels everywhere.  Recently I purchased a Bush freeview box from Tescos and have got all channels in Kessingland and all channels at Dower House yesterday.  On both ocasions with the freeview the arial has had to gain reception through dence trees, no problem, crystal clear.  I made two new bars which replaced the bars which came with the mast kit to space the arial past the folding bed, obviously caravan people do not get this problem.
