My old Combicamp family trailer tent needs the canvas replaced. I have found a supplier but wonder how easy it is to fit the new canvas. Has anyone had any experience of such a job.
Sorry I can't help you but have you tried asking Siggi who is the sole importer of Combi Camps in the UK? He is at Mangine Ltd in Thame, Oxfordshire and seems to be the fount of all knowledge when it comes to combis. I hear that Tent Valeting Systems in Bolton are very good at repairing trailer tents etc so they may be able to help you.
You could also try asking in the combi camp owners group. Someone may have tried this at some stage.
Replacing the canvas is quite straightforward once you know how.
Problem is however that cost of new canvas is around £1000, if you can find one.
Canvas quality is also important these days so you need to know the gramm weight of the canvas, higher over 30 the better!
I have had quotes for good quality canvas and modern materials, which are just as hard wearing these days and the canvas is twice the price, certainly a point worth thinking of, unless you're a purist..
I can point you in the direction of either if you still need help.
personally I wouldn't tackle removing the canvas myself - try Mangine Ltd in Thame as Siggi is back and forth from Denmark all the time and may well be able to source a used one in good nick
ps I have just found some instructions in my combi handbook for refitting the canvas - I can let you have a copy if you contact me either via Ratty here on UKCS (see contact us) and he will pass an email on or via the owners group in my link - or failing that Siggi the main dealer and importer would be able to get you a copy I'm sure....
When I was thinking of taking the canvas off my Easy to have it professionally repaired I spoke to The Canvas Repair Company in Burton who said they could arrange for the canvas to be taken off and put back on again after the repair by another company, but the cost of that was going to be around £300, which doubled the cost of the repair. Siggi said it was worth it compared to a new canvas at around £1200. But I did the repair myself instead (with a little help from my friends! )
