Hi, I've just bought my first TT got it off ebay. It's a trigano Chantilly. The problem is the lefthand (as you look at the back) (Can never remember off-side /near side ) isn't working properly. indicators work rear lights don't work properly neither does brake lights. I think the right one is OK. Can someone suggest if it's going to be the light or the connector? What should I check? Is it likely to be something I can fix myself or will it need to be a dealer thingy. I'm in Manchester so camperlands is easy to get to.
Is there anywhere other than on here (which so far looks really good) that is good for this sort of info?
Also tyres may be a little low. Is the legal depth the same as for car tyres? don't want to get into trouble.
look at the bulbs if their ok and the bits of metal that the bulb touches are clean then its the connector ,in our 97ish chantilly the connector is in rear compartment on the left (looking from the back) we had a loose wire ,to fix its nothing more than tugging gently on each wire to see if its loose and replace and tighten any that come away.
if you cant find fault there then a meter is needed and its a case of tracing from the car connector to the lights.
you need an audible indicator fitted if your car doesent have the function as well nowadays if your chantilly is as old as mine and an older car.
tires should be treated exactly the same as car tires ,just because a trailer doesent need a MOT eagle eyed police spot faulty trailers occasionally and getting a trailer home that can't be towed just as expensive as getting a non working car home.
check the bearings and brakes (if it has them) while your there and if braked you need a cable that operates the brakes then snaps or heavy enough not to snap if its unbraked!!!
as both stop lamps don't work i bet its loose wires
Another thing ,when i got my TT the tires were completely bald around the outside (low pressure) i found out why on reading the instructions which state the pressure should be 2.5 KGwhich in reality should be 2.5 BAR!!! obviasly the last owner took the book as fact!
there is helpfull instructions for erecting it here in the "opzetinginstructies" albeit in dutch and in the download section the poles in situ err thing for several TT's

Hi, You could also check the socket on the car and the plug on the trailer. One of the jobs to be done each spring when preparing your trailer is to clean the pins on both of these. Roll the emery cloth round the pins on the plug and rotate for a few minutes, roll the emery cloth up small with the abrasive side outside and push into the socket and let in expand as far as possible, then once again twist round for a few minutes. Hope this helps.
Hi, i had this problem on my fc the problem was a loose wire in the trailer socket, i took it apart and cleaned a refitted the wire Hey presto it worked.
got a simlar problem on my trailer also only it is my right side lights that not work.
I have narrowed down the problem when ,i wiggle the plug under the kitchen bit the lghts work ,so i am going to try cleaning the contacts in plug and socket as to me it seems to be a connecton problem may even be the prongs in the plug just need a slight move to make beter contact
only got my TT a fortnight ago (secondhand) ,and tow bar fitted last friday and number pale done sunday so not been able to check anything out till it was fitted . Plus the precipitation (rain ) has not hleped .
If you are really concerned you can buy a plug that you plug in the car socket that checks the car electrics. I think Towsure does them,or take it to a local garage (I am a garage but not local) and ask them to check it.
Good luck Iain
------------- If it ain't broke don't try to fix it!
With the wiring for the side(tail) lights, the feed is seperate to each light, so you may have lost 1 feed. Here is an easy wiring diagram, even I can understand it...LOL
if all the lights on one side aren't working as they should you cold have a faulty earth (-ve) wire. you will probably find it connected to the body of the TT somewhere around the light cluster.
