Hi folks

Writing this well and truly fed up : (  We picked up our folding camper- sunncamp millenium on Thurs and went straight to Windsor for my sons birthday, yes you guessed it we were nearly washed away in the truly hideous weather.

The canvas on the awning and on the camper itself, leaked terribly EVERYTHING is soaked, carpets fittings etc, just don't konw where to start to dry her out.  The dealership have said they have a new set of canvas they can fit.  We just don't know whether to cut our losses and give it all up or give the new canvas a try....how can we ever dry out the carpets?

Someone has commented on another thread that if the poles are touching the canvas it can leak??  How do you get the poles not to touch the canvas, sin't that what they do...can you tell new to all this and SOOO disappointed as we were all so  excited and now not sure if we can ever get her dry, and does this happen all the time?

Jules

Was it new? If so the canvas needs to be wet and dried before it is waterproof. If the rain you had was like ours the poor thing stood no chance. Dry the canvas (ok I can't see how in this) and then check it again to see if it still leaks. No it doesn't happen all the time our pathfinder has stood up to all weather and not leaked but when we  first damped the canvas it was the rain we have just had. Personally I think the dealership should have explained all this to you and I would be demanding a new unit. It wont dry the same if the wood has got wet. Can you borrow a dehumidifier?

Thanks, no the camper is a millenium edition so it is seven years old.

The canvas being offered to us is new. Am I being daft but if it needs to get soaked before it is waterproof won't everything inside get wet?  Taking it back today, really unsure as to where to go from here.

No it doesn't need to be soaked. A heavy mist or a gentle spray with a garden sprayer is all that is needed. It makes the fibres swell and after that they are fine. Difficult with a seven year old unit. Personally I'd be trying for my money back and start again. Ask if the floor and bed boards warp are they prepared to fix it? Its hard to know just how wet you mean the inside got and how long it has been wet for. I would hate for you to put a new canvas on and then find the mattresses were mildewed when you open it up again. Did you get it from Norwich Camping? if so their reputation means something to them.

I am so sorry to hear of your problem. We have had TT's for many years and touch wood quickly ...... even our old TT didn't ever leak or let in water. I am suprised that this has happened to you and hope you can get it resolved. All the best.

Hello all

Thanks so much for your help so far...update for you : )

Yes I did get it from Norwich camping.  Andrew, their head trailer tent chap came out this evening and fitted all new canvas inner tents awning and ground sheet.  The unit looks good, lets hope it holds up to the rain.  The bed units have dried, and at the moment it is the carpets that are the problem, although we can fit new ones if worse comes to worse, and yes I will get them to replace.  The sofas and matresses are still drying out in our spare room/chinese laundry!!

Just looking now to dry out the carpet.  I really hope this works as it was good value for money, and we have a holiday to dorset booked in a couple of weeks.

Thanks again for your help this is a great and informative site.  Lets hope our TT days are not over quite yet.

sounds like good service from them considering it was a seven year old unit, heres hoping the new canvas is a bit tougher towards the elements than the old,

try and use some towels to get the worst of the water out of the carpets, put em down and stand on em,all the best in the future

i wont mention the advantages of the pvc camper at this time...[doh i have]..lol

May be worth hiring a carpet cleaner from someone like VHS or HSS, as these machines suck all the water out as it cleans the carpet, it won't get all the water out but after you have used it the carpet should dry in a couple of hours. If you decide to use one of these make sure you ask for an upholstery attachment as the machine won't fit in the unit.

She is still pretty wet but slowly drying out, the new canvas seems to be holding up to the elements.
