Don't know if this is the kind of post you all want.

Red Funnel and Isle of Wight crossing fares.

I was on red funnels website today looking at the cost of crossing in september.

I initially put us down as having a medium sized trailer and the return fare was £92. I then went back and changed to a caravan . lo and behold I get a price of £69 return. Thinking this a bit unfair I emailed them. Very quickly they told me there was a height option on the medium trailer and when I stated the height as up to 2.7M the quote came back as £69, same as a caravan.

I mention all this so others can take note that the option is there rather than just assume that we have to pay more. If in doubt contact them, they are very good at clarifying these issues.

BTW this was for travel after 20:00 which is cheaper.

Hope that's of some use to someone.

Yep, I think the towsure deals are great. I may be reading them wrong in that I think the ferry must be used on the day of arrival and you must leave on the last day too. I think these are five day fares. Have been back to the island a lot in the last few years but this will be the first time with a trailer. Cheers all.

Just tried the red funnel site and put in caravan instead of medium sized trailer ( pennine pullman) and it did come out cheaper. This was based on booking a ferry from east cowes at )09:30  Sun Augand returning at 17:00 on followig Sat. Thanks for this info as it may help me save money in the future as I am an island resident. I had no idea that the caravan charge was cheaper.

Thanks again and enjoy the summer.steve.

If you put in medium trailer you will see that there is a height pull down button. by lowering the height you get the same price as a caravan for your trailer. This would probably be better to save confusion on loading. Glad to have been of some use.

Its annoying that when you enter medium trailer, the height pull down button automatically goes to the higher option. I dipped out the other week when I booked a red funnel ferry. I opted for medium trailer and just took for granted that as the height column adjusted itself, that this was the normal restrictions for medium trailer.  Wont get caught out again though. Its good to knoe this as I find most times that wightlink are usually dearer than red funnel.

Thanks again for tip. I will be wiser next time. steve

I've tried them and unless I'm missing something they seem a heck of a lot more expensive. It could be I'm not using their site right though so any tips most welcome.

It seems to us that the ferry companys opperating to and from the isle of wight tend to change there prices regulary. Last year we used Wight link as they where by far the cheapest, this year we used Red Funnel as they worked out the cheapest. The only diference we found is Red Funnel boats are bigger so expect more people.
