I was under my exportmatic yesterday checking chassis. I came across a snap hook and chain and I cant figure out what its for. Its a few inches in from the back of the trailer and from left to right its in the center. Any ideas anyone?
its probably the safety chain for the spare wheel ,if the carriage drops accidentally its held by the chain stopping it hitting the road.
your spare wheel maybe somewhere else but in the factory provision was probably made incase its carried underneath.
if theres 2 holes in the frame about 2ft6" in opposite each other provision for a carrier is there ,a spike on each side of the carrier go into the holes to make a crude hinge and a bolt goes through the back "beam" into a nut on the carrier to hold it in place (once the carriers lifted up into place). i'm ofcourse reffering to my chantilly other makes carriers maybe different ofcourse.
the little chain is clipped to the carrier ,if the bolt works loose and falls out the carrier falls untill the chain is taught stopping you losing your spare.
