We are new to trailer tenting and joined the Caravan Club.

We have a camplet savanna so the awning is integral with the tent.

I note that there are many campsites advertising hard standings only or the majority being hard standings.

My query is this - I can see why hardstandings are good for caravans but what about TT's where some of need to to peg out the awning. Obviouslly concrete hardstandings are of no use to us but what about stone chippings? Can we really peg out the awning. We do have some some steel pegs which are supposidly good for hard ground.

Any comments/help please.

yes you can peg on stone chippings, but you need rock pegs, most other pegs will just bend. you can get rock pegs in most camping outlets. I got mine on ebay.

hope this helps

Paul

Thanks Paul for your reply. One more question - If we can peg out on chippings isn't it hard under foot and wouldn't a groundsheet just get holes in it.

Hi, we was on a hard standing site (stone chippings) we used the nail pegs no probs and put down the (grass friendly) ground sheet and it looked and walked on a treat.   Keith......

Buy a cheap tarpaulin to go under the ground sheet. Even with hardstanding sometimes if you go to the edge you peg into grass.
