Got home yesterday from Silverbank Caravan Club site. [Will write a review in a minute] Beautiful site. Perfectly maintained, it looks perfect...till you start pegging. The pitchs are luxury sized, you can put what you want on it. We were the only tt there but didnt feel out of place. Well recieved and the wardens [relief 'cause the regulars were on leave] were very helpful. Back to the pitch. Grey 1" chips on top of the hardest substance known to man.We had bought rock pegs prior to going but I was in no way prepared for the surface which I would have to drive them into. I gave a fine demonstration of what ' Cursing like a Trooper ' meant.

Pegging took twice as long as it ought. However once that was achieved, we settled down to a brilliant 5 days of peace and quiet on one of the best run sites available. Its a bit pricey, £7.10 + £5.40 per adult per night =£ 17.90 per night but worth it I think. The only other issue I had with it is the distance from the EHU point. I had brought a 10 mtr extention and needed to use it.

However, all things considered worth the visit, but Hardstanding's...hope I dont have to use to many of them...

I know how you felt as we were once put on a hard standing in our frame tent. The site was in the Dordogne & we had booked in advance so we had to persevere with our rubber mallet.The site manager/owner realised his error & helped us pitch.

We were lucky in a way as the chippings were only small & we had a spare groundsheet to go under the main living area.

We now have rock pegs & a claw hammer.

Always carried a rubber mallet and a 2lb hammer in the front box, sometimes needed the hammer late last summer when a grass pitch was really dry and hard.

we struggles at homsley in the new forest with first off a plastic mallet which took a battering, we then went to a rubber mallet which bounced off the pegs and nearly took your teeth out then we used  a small metal square hammer thing which started to work still took ages until some bright spark in the group said is this any good a solid copper lump hammer!    the pegs never stood a chance!

we were considering using the transit van to pull them out but thought we would not be welcome back i woulddent mind but they were 85p each and are now sitting in a car park covered in the thinest bit of grass in the world in the new forest i think the tricjk is not to bang them in as far as the nornal pegs so you can get under the peg to pull it out the claw hammer is a fantastic idea lets face it rock pegs are only huge nails!!

were going back in a few weeks .....just to get the pegs back

ok maybe not but were going back to get one last trip in this year not sure when to stop for the year as i have three children to think of
