Hi All

this question has probably been asked countless times but...........

I have a Khyam Special Edition which despite being now 6 years old is still in good condition, my question though, what are the advantages of upgrading (?) to a trailer tent, given it'll probably slow me down on the roads and cost more on the ferries?

Geof

We made the very same change this year after 12 years of frame tent camping using cars of ever increasing size (focus to V70) which were always filled to capacity. Our Stratos is larger, quicker to errect & more flexible than our five man frame tent. The trailer can be used to store much of what you need. No need for air beds & the beds are stored ready to use during the camping season.  They do slow you down a bit in this country but not France where we camp for our summer hols.

Do your research carefully because, depending on your choice it will be a significant expense. It is a big change but one we are glad we made.

Good luck in your deliberations

John

We were in the Netherlands & Luxembourg a couple of years ago in torrential rain that lasted days.  We had a similar dome type tent.  the sleeping quarters remained dry, but the central area had a river running underneath, then eventually through it.  After a few nights of this we gave up & went to the Holiday inn.

We then bought a Dandy Designer + have never looked back.  You are sleeping well off the ground, so even if the awning floods, the beds never will.  There is a dining table inside with proper seats so wet evenings aren't the fun filled no -events they used to be (we now play Scrabble!)  The kitchen is indoors also.

It is fairly lightweight at 500Kg loaded so can be pulled with a small car.  It can be filled up with all of the gear needed (not that much as the cooker etc is inside already) including my surf board.  It goes in the garage when not in use.

I have camped ever since I was 8 years old, am now 40 & look back on the conditions I used to accept with wonder!

Steve

I know what you mean about the river through the tent which is one of the features atracted us to a TT & the stratos in particular.

I also cringe on how I used to camp many years ago - no air bed or even sleeping mat etc

cant beat the luxury of a tt, quick to tow,  good fuel mileage ,nice and warm and dry,

great place to keep all your stuff between trips, not an eyesore in the garden like a caravan,

all the better its its got a dandy badge on it too
