Just bought a Conway challenger camper & awning (1997 model)

Tried it out this weekrennd.

What a night mare putting the awning up.

Can anyone tell me how to get instructions to assemble or tips.

How does the frame of the awning attach to the  camper.

Just traded in my '97 Challenger in at Caseys. You didn't get it from there did you?

What we used to do was zip awning on & pull back over main unit. Assemble front "A" frame & lay on ground. Attach roof support poles to main unit by hooks, the one with the smaller hook goes in the middle, & leave hanging. With help, pick up front "A" frame & attach roof support poles, middle one first. Pull awning over, fit stub canopy, zip on draught skirt, tension roof poles, get legs to right height & peg out.

How does the hooks attach to the camper, in the holes? rest through the camper fabric?

If you pull the canvas on the main unit back in the centre & at the corners you'll see some proper ready made holes in the canvas of the main unit that give access to holes in frame of the main unit that the roof support poles hook into.

Never bothered to get the Challenger serviced at Caseys (canvas, gas, water etc), but had the trailer unit serviced by a trailer company on the Wirral, they checked bearings, brake & put a couple of new tyres on. Can't remember the name of the trailer company, but they're in Rock Ferry & came recommended by a friend.....I'll find out the name.

How did you charge your leisure battery?

I do not have a twin connector on the tow bar/

We stopped using the battery because it was just too much to lug around, the only thing we used it for was to pump in the water. However when we did use it I only ever needed to charge it up before we went away. If you run out of charge while camping the campsite owners may charge it for a fee. We ended up using a 10ltr jerry can with a tap which we put on a table in the awning along with a 3-way Sibir fridge. We always used the awning when we went away cos there's not a lot of space for a family of 4 in the main unit.

Assuming you've got a hook-up, it's also worth investing in a kettle, a fan heater & some lighting. We use a 60 watt bulb in the awning & a remote control rechargeable in the main unit. For waste water we ended up using a 2ltr squash bottle or 4 pint milk bottle, they may need to be emptied more often, but you don't have to pack them away.
