Hello,

Anyone been to Jersey with their folding camper? Do the same laws apply in regards to appling for a licence to stay, or is this just for caravans and motorhomes? I would love to go next year but I am sooooooo confused

The roads are so narrow and winding I wouldn't even think about it.

I seem to recall reading recently that the local police only allow you to tow from the ferry to the site and back again (by a pre-defind route?). No doubt someone will confirm (or not) this later.

We went to jersey three years ago, and  i think that as long as you are booked in at a site and have your paperwork there are no problems. We were not stopped are had our paperwork checked. We went by the fast ferry from poole and as they had loaded lots of cars on before us it was a bit tight driveing and parking in the ferry, this is because you drive in and drive to the rear then turnaround to face the way you come in.The trip over is great and we had a great holiday there.

go for it.

Yes, thats what I thought,

Its on my list of places to visit to camp,

Not as tho you are going to tow a camper or caravan anyother time anyway than to and from the ferry is it!

We have been going to Jersey now for the past 11 years...the last 3 of which have been in our Crusader. It really isn't a problem at all!

We stay at Beuvelande campsite in St Martin, which is absolutely superb with a great pool, nice little restaurant/ bar and really clean bathroom facilities. The site is about a 15 minute drive from town (St Helier) and is mainly along decent sized main roads, although there is a short 'narrow' section as you get to the site. If it is your first visit though, someone from the site will meet you and escort you up from the Elizabeth Harbour Ferry Terminal.

I cannot recommend the Island enough, although if you are looking for theme parks and lots of 'touristy' things it's probably best avoided..but there is loads for families to do...and we have an 18 year old, 15 year old and 5 year old..all of whom love going and wouldn't go anywhere else! There are loads of family friendly restaurants, so if you are a bit of a 'foodie' (especially seafood) you will love it!

The site (and the Island generally) does get very full around time of the Battle of Flowers (second Thursday in August) but if you book early enough you will still get on without too much trouble. The only downside is the cost of the ferry over, as Condor do have a monopoly at present but the site fees are very reasonable and every pitch has a hook up. We have travelled on both the fast ferry from Poole/ Weymouth and the slow ferry from Portsmouth, although we tend to go on the fast cat as the slow boat only arrives in at 8pm meaning that you have a late set up going that way.

As you can probably tell, I cannot recommend the Island and site highly enough but if you need any more info, please just let me know..and I'll try to help!

Andy

I must admit my first impressions were wrong, provided you stick to the main roads as described it sounds like you will have a memorable holiday, I love Jersey, it is a fantastic island.  The only thing that puts me off is the ferry price.
