Hi all,

I'm new to this board and hoping for some advice please! I've just brought a 2nd hand Camp-let that has been stored damp and has mould/mildew in various places.

My question is, should I treat it now or leave it til the spring, I'm thinking that if I leave it will the problem will get worse?

I have the use of a large barn that I could put it in to keep it dry whilst I'm treating it so the rain won't be a problem but having read others messages on here it seems I need make sure I fold it before 2pm to prevent further damp and will be looking for some of those condestaion crystals!

Also, should I re-poof it now or can that wait til the spring?

Many thanks,

Linda

Hi Linda, we bought a conway campa that had been stored for a long time, it had been packed away wet, and was full of milldew. We bought Dottox milldew and mould spray, yhis cost £1.79 from Wilkinsons, have seen it in other stores, we did the whole canvas and awning with 2 sprays. All the milldew just disappeared when dry, the good thing is, you just apray it on and leave, no need to rub. We did ours in a bedroom, the smell was like very strong bleach, so a barn would be ideal, hope it does the trick for you, let me know how you get on.

Don't leave it under any circumstances.  You will end up with the canvas rotting away.  As posted above, use a proprietry remover and allow to dry.  Once folded away keep checking the mildew to satisfy your peace of mind.

As for reproofing, the summer will be fine.  We always use Fabsil.  For heavy canvas we paint the canvas with Fabsil and just allow to dry.  Once treated the canvas will be waterproof.

By the way, welcome to UKCS and happy camping.
