Hi there, first post on this forum.

We're looking at a Penine Sterling 510 FC 2003 model with awning and accesories. the owner wants 4250 no offers. Does this sound reasonable ? I know they are about 7k new.

The ad is on www.preloved.co.uk. Here is the link:

Any advice plus what to look for would be appreciated. We have owned a trailer tent and a campervan, but this will be our first folding camper.

Many thanks.

Well we have a 2003 pathfinder and I reckon we would get/want around £6000 this time of year. The sterling is "two under" the pathfinder more basically fitted than the pullman and pathfinder so if anything I think it's a tad dear. It says it has hookup be aware that not all sterlings have 240 volt as standard so check it has a psu (this runs the 12 volt recharges the battery etc) not just a trailer tent type 3 plug lead.  He does seem to be including a fair bit of stuff. The bedroom annex is worth several hundred on its own. The cruisers of that age on ebay do seem to getting that much or more.

Check the canvas is intact just as you would for a tt. Check the poles aren't bent. Check all the awning curtains panels etc are there. People seem to have a nasty tendency to put the cooker lid down on the flame on sterlings so check the under side of the lid. Check where the wardrobe attaches to the front on a slider bar this can pull out. Go and see it if you possibly can. Some are literally as new others have been well used. Just press the panels from the inside on the door to check there is no sponginess although pennines aren't generally thought to have a problem with damp. Make sure you see it up as well. Then join the owners club and we'll see you around!
