Can anyone help my friend? She has a Cabanon Mistral TT like ours which she loves.
However, she opened it up at the weekend to air it ready for a trip away in 3 weeks time and found it had a pale grey/white mould on parts of the canvas!!

It was definately dry when packed away in October and appeared to be fine at the beginning of December when she opened it out to air.
It is stored in her garage all year round with the cover on and she has never had any problems before!

Does anyone have any idea what this stuff is and more importantly how does she get rid of it without damaging the canvas?

It smells quite musty and does seem to brush away if rubbed quite hard but will this ruin the waterproofing?

Any advice greatly received!!!!

Dettol Mould and Mildew spray is what we used when we got a seconhand camper with similar problems, just spray it on and hey presto gone. It is as easy as that believe me. It does need doing in a well ventilated place as it gives off a very stromg smell, which goes away quickly. We have since used this on sevral friend TT and FC with the same effect.

Yes we used it on a two tone grey and a brown and cream and all it did was remove the mould no staining at all.

Thanks for all the advice!!!

If she uses the Dettol spray will she then need to re-proof the canvas afterwards?

I am not sure as we were reproofing in any case, I would think it adviseable although I do not use the expensive reproofer I use Thompsons waterseal which is a lot cheaper and works just as well. But as we now have a Dandy I do not have to worry about mould or reproofing, what a relief it is to go away and be able to pack up wet without a worry in the world.

Hi I own a Cabanon Mistral Iand went through this same nightmare last year and ended up buying a whole new canvas. I cleaned it with diluted milton to kill the mould bacteria and then cleaned the effected areas with natural soap flakes with lots of water. Do not scub any area and all of the soap must be washed out. Then I re-proof it with Thompsons it will never be the same but it did work. I still have my old cleaned and re-proofed main and cabin canvas plus spare new liners and curtains if they need to buy any, just in case it does all go wrong. Best of luck anyway...........
