I suppose the basic difference is you don't have to peg out the cabin of a folding camper so it's a lot quicker to pitch especially if you are only staying overnight and don't need the awning space.

I never could understand why there is such a big price difference.

Folding campers are the bottom half of a caravan with a canvas roof (or PVC in the case of the Dandy/Riva). They are competitively priced compared to carvans. Trailer tents are trailers with a tent attached.

FCs are much quicker to put up - as Rob says they don't need to be pegged out. The kitchen is all set up ready whereas with a TT you have to take the unit (if it has one) off the drawbar and lift it round into the awning.

Generally, with an FC you don't have to put an awning on if you don't want to whereas with a TT you will need the awning as the trailer part only has the beds in.

not been on this site for quite a bit, but why don,t they make trailer tents the same as fcs for the main cabin with no pegging ? the smaller campers are very similar.

Possibly to do with stability - there is not a lot of weight in the cabin of a trailer tent whereas in an FC there is the kitchen, table, etc.

In betweenies like the Combi Camp, Camplet and Raclet Solena have the weight of the trailer roof which becomes the floor so are more stable.

i might be biased, as we have just ordered a camplet.

although it is a tt, there isnt a tent to put up.

you fold out the roof of the trailer, and pull the canvas out, it works like the old pram hood design

and if you are just stopping off for the night, then a couple of pegs is all you'd need,

it really is camping without the hassle of a tent and all the poles etc.

the kitchen hinges out of the end of the trailer, with coker, sink cupboards and running water.

i would defy anyone to put up a fc, quicker than a camplet

Have only ever seen one Camplet pitched, but as I understand it you will need more than a couple of pegs for the awning which is permanently attached and part of the unit?

I've also heard that hey are very difficult for one person to put up on their own, whereas many Folding Campers can be done by one person, as can the Combi Camps.

But I may be wrong.

i can promise you, with the new gas assisted struts, the awning goes up in one pull.

and for an over night stop, if the weather is good, you would only need to peg the corners and the door

to be honest, i can' t see how they can improve the design anymore. I am sold on it anyway

like most of us, i have spent years struggling with canvas and poles, and looking for

 an easier solution.

my last tent was a £2500 Karsten, which blew up with compressed air, but it was still a lot of hard work.

we have always had to allow a day for setting up, and a day for packing up

now we can arrive at 7 pm, and be cooking by 8 pm  .

so we either get 2 extra days holiday, or 2 more days at work.
