i have just "plumbed" in a zig so we can have 12v to some sockets in the TT for the lights and tv and a 240v outlet to the awning ,looks pretty good IMHO
in the future (and why i bothered) we will get a leisure battery to help weed us of EHU's
we plug the cable into the trailer instead of to the trips then back to the trailer from the awning ,the trips now just plug into a garage power fitting in the trailer so the cable can be shorter to the awning kitchen,if we use another tent all the connections are still as they were.

Mike I have just found a 20amp 12v transformer SMPS for the sum of 36.99 which I consider to be very cheap. They come from Ripmax the model suppliers.

hi Gerald, The Ripmax transformer looks like the  sort used to give a regulated supply to CB base stations. At 20 amps output it is ok  for running waterpump, lights etc.  While you can charge a battery, its not ideal in that it is advisable to ocasionally  boost charge at approx 14.5 volts to desulphate the plates which is one reason for leasure batteries failing.

Regards Bob

It is not a charger it is only a power supply, a charger has to be separate to the smps supply. they were never made as chargers and should not be used as one.

Mike I have posted the curcuit I am at present building for my Dandy, have a look it is not too tecnical. It has many advantages which I will name when I have written the instructions, basically if you are using one battery the other is charging, as long as you have 240v.

Hi art, yup there's been a few and the new seasons not underway for most people, and I have had two changes already. I have updated the Electrical dawing with some dialogue, on how it works.

Towsure do the Transformers, as we found out when we left ours at home.

Now have 1 to get the chiller down to temp before we leave and 1 that is kept in the Dandy.

Hi Sorry to keep posting the same question!!!!

Going to France again in the summer, taking our Dandy, and wondering if anyone can shed light on a problem we encountered with the continental electrics last year. We had 2 systems in place:

1.12V via the car battery, which we used for the water pump and internal light  - this was really meant to be used for times when we couldn't find hook ups

2. Electric hook -up with a power - breaker.

We found that even when we used a continental adaptor the electrics would not work(they work fine in the uk)We even borrowed an adaptor on site to make sure that ours wasn't faulty. Anyhow we spent 2 weeks and seemed to manage with just the car battery!

Could it be that the continental current doesn't have enough "umph" to reset the circuit breaker???

Sandy

It may be that the phase is incorrect ie in UK we are 50 Hertz. But I do not know what the continental systems are.

We used our normal caravan EHU lead via an adaptor in France on 3 different sites with no problems a few years ago, maybe the EHU point you were on was faulty.

Goodness me!!!

All these people with all these fancy gadgets!!!

Whatever happened to trotting over to the tap!!!

We don't even carry a water container. Just send the old man to the tap, boil the kettle and fill a flask with hot water - lasts all day for cups of tea for me!!!
