Have been offered a 16 year old Dandy Delta, in pretty good nick for £650 should i go for it. A few features are damaged, but we like the "roughin" it element of camping so no big deal. what should i look out for ?
Check the chassis around the suspension mounting points..have been known to crack here....mine did!!! also check the indespension units themselves for travel..in reality if you have a basicly sound unit any cosmetics can be tidied up at your liesure..Dandys are pretty bombproof!...has it got an awning?? would expect one at that price...maybe I am being a bit tight but £650.00 would seem to be at the top end..have a look on e.bay to get an idea of prices...good luck..plenty of help for Dandys on here...
Electric pumps were not fitted as standard on that year as far as i know. Easy to add one though.
Feet and any special bits would be available from Riva Dandy sales, see the website (google for Rivadandy).
that is extremely sound advice about the suspension/chassis. If it has been kerbed or potholed they can be bent or worse. Look for uneven wear on the tires.
Other than that, they are pretty sound, I have a 21 year old in very servicable condition.
Cheers Alf, we live in Northern Ireland Folding Campers of any description are very thin on the ground, as there don't seem to be any local sellers in the whole island. We have been in contact with people who will take to ferry points, but once you start adding that to the price ........
baffled : burnt out pump on sink , no big shakes if you have an electric kettle. Iam taking the year of manufacture from the NOs. on chasis as has been detailed on this site ie ****** S92 its possible owner has innovated as he has with electrics which are perfectly sound. (ie modern fuse box)
Due to your location Nick and the scarcity of folders my advice would be that if you waqnt it go get it! sure you will not be dissapointed with a Dandy.mines getting on for 25 years old and still going strong..just check the running gear for peace of mind...look on the £650.00 as a long term investment.......
Nick, mines 28 years old and still in great condition - though its not wired for electrics. Can't wait to go away in it - good luck if you decide to buy it, sounds like a good buy.
How much is the two way fare on the boat, then that will give you an idea if it is beter to buy one on the mainland as it were. As you will get more choise and you could extend to a holiday if you wanted. I knoe where I can get a Dandy 6 for about £600 in excellent condition, have a look on my website the six is the one currently up for sale but I no longer own it as I have just sold them a Designer for £300.
I think we will go for it, given climate we generally are only out for long weekends, & this camper is sound for everything. Owner let us try it last week & it coped very well with the storm on Thursday night. Condensation with 4 inmates abit of a problem, but hardly the end of the world.
