I have owned many caravans,2 trailer tents and currently a campervan. I am thinking that as I am getting older I may buy a gobur folding caravan that I can store in my garage to eliminate storage fees and reduce petrol consumption. (the camper is quite heavy on petrol and its my only transport)  I have thought about something like a Romahome but I doubt that I could live with the lack of space although I like them. plus they are expensive and I am now on a limited income being semi retired. I enjoyed the trailer tent but the downside was I have nowhere to dry it if it has to be folded wet.

So I thought a folding caravan could tick the boxes.

Any gobur owners got any thoughts please or are there any downsides? We do not stay on sites for 1 night only but stay for full week/s at a time.

I bought my carousel used and so far have had 3 good holidays with it.

It is 24 years old and I had it serviced last month all that was needed was a new flexible gas hose as the old one was past its sell by date.

the only thing that I have had to replace is the roof seals it took me about a day to do.

As my drive is very steep I had reich motor movers fitted to it last year.

I can get on site and in under 5mins on my own have the van errected and the kettle on.

It takes about another half hour to set up awning etc.

Gobur are very helpful if you require spares and even give you instructions on how to fit them.

Thanks John, I am very interested in the 12/2T Slimline and like yours it would not be new. Yours looks in very good condition. They really do keep well. I would also want a motor mover due to a slope up to the garage and my angina!

If you do get a carousel Powertouch will not sell you a mover direct you have to go through Gobur,However, I had reich movers fitted by the mobile fitter link below.

Having had tents, caravans, m'caravans and now a folding camper, I would sugguest you buy our Pennine Pullman fc, which we just happpent to be selling. See adverts'

Folding caravans are small inside and need a lot of setting up. They are also heavy to tow and manouvre and can be draughty. The fc is bliss to tow behind our Golf diesel auto and easy to shift.

We are stopping camping after 40 years of bliss because my wife is no longer able to enjoy it but we shall be renting statics, cottages, hotels and cruises.

Hi we have an Estrelle folding caravan hubby says its really easy to tow.

Whilst it is quite compact inside we manage quite well with 2 adults, 2 kids plus terrier and a labrador with a very waggy tail. Ok quite compact for us but it all depends what you want to get from camping/caravanning we spend most of our time out and about.

Regarding edward452 coment about them needing a lot of setting up all that needs doing is pelmets hooking up sink/cooker unit lifting (counter weighted so no heavey lifting and the wardrobe standing up right all done from arrival on sight within 20-30 mins.

Good luck in what ever you decide is the best option for you.

have you thought about a dandy we used ours for the first time at the weekend. tows behind a punto 1.2, more room inside than you think, and can be left packed away wet.

No as long as it is properly loaded and you keep to the speed limits you should have no trouble with it.

We were in the same position IE, been there, seen it, done it and now getting on a bit and wanted something smaller that would give us the best of all previous units but without the expense of storage or even road tax when not in use. So it had to be a caravan that fitted in a lock up.

How about a Fleurette Pop Top Caravan, ours fits in the garage, see our picture on the Members photos, and its great to tow.

I dont have a big garage and most of the pop tops will not fit heightwise.
