Second newbie question in as many days - it's the fridge this time.

Have tried to get it to work on the gas but with no joy. So can you tell me if I've missed something obvious please. So far I've done the following:

1) Confirmed I have gas coming into the unit by checking that the burners are working

2) Checked that the green light comes on when hooked up to the mains so I know that there is power going to it

3) Tried every combination of holding the nob in (mainly set to the biggest flame which I hope is correct, but also tried other settings) for 10 seconds, then 20, then 40 to see if that made a difference.

Strangely when switching to battery instead of mains the red light doesn't come on on at the switch although there is power as the main light works which seems odd. Also it was a few degrees off level and I was wondering if that would make a difference.

Is there anything else I should be checking?

Ta

Steve

Don't know about gas or 12v but my fridge takes a couple of hours to even start to get cold on 240v.

Haven't managed to get the gas lit at this stage so haven't even got to the stage of seeing how cold it will get!!

It's really hard to see the pilot light window clearly, but I'm certain it hasn't lit so far...

You know there is a wee tap in the gas pipe that needs turning on as well. Ours is well hidden on the opposite side of the van in a cupboard. We have one for the water one for the fridge one for the bbq point one for the cooker.all just to confuse you!

Why do you need to use gas if there is an electric hook up available? After all you are paying for electricity anyway,if there is electricity on the sight we are on we do not use gas at all,we use a combi microwave, twin electric hotplate and a blow air heater and electric kettle, you have to watch the amps. obviously but i cant see the point of using gas when you are already paying for electric, its also safer and there are no fumes and less condensation.

Yes Steve it is. I don't think you had your unit in your profile at the time. In the pathfinder the fridge is by the  door so the gas is a long way away on the other side under the sink! If you lie down you should see the piezo spark even if the gas doesn't light. Your description of lights means you have a different fridge to us. It might be worth lowering your standards and posting this in equipment or even heaven forbid caravans to attract a larger audience.

In the pathfinder the stop valve for the fridge gas is in the front gas locker, on the pipe going towards the fridge side (obviously). Also the fridge will not work if it is not dead level although I think it should still light.

Thanks all - I wonder if it was the fact that it wasn't level, will try it again when we are on-site on Friday.

Tonytucks - Site we are staying at has no hook-ups free so we are on battery and gas for the few days - hence the desire to run fridge on gas.
