Thanks for that Val. I believe the canvas is about 20 years old and has been reproofed at least once - I'll check the exact dates but probably won't need to re do it for another 3 years and I am likely to have moved onto a different unit by then (as this is my 2nd unit since Xmas!! )
Well, at 20 years old it's doing well if it's only needed proofed once. The proof (!) of the pudding is in the eating, though, so see what it looks like when it goes up and when it rains. If the canvas looks thin and worn and is getting saturated in patches then it would be worth reproofing again sooner than three years, I think.
Big job though and expensive, so mot to be undertaken lightly. It does my head in when I read of folk reproofing two or three year old canvas!
I only reproof when you actually begin to get leaks as val says with a good quality canvas could be as long as 12 years (depending on sun exposure) I also have a 25 year old ridge reproofed 10 years ago with fabsil and a forty year old plus frame reproofed with Thompsons 15 years ago both sound and not touched since then so do disagree with Val on the once you start you need to carry on

Thanks for that ZAC i am glad i seen your post i am going to buy it tomorrow.
glad you saw it before you buy watch it when you go to tills as it does not come up as being on offer but the flyer on shelf clearly states any 5lt cans of building chemicals 3 for 2 bulk buy offer
I bought 3 for 2 Thompsons in Northamptonshire yesterday. I had to get them to check it twice as the first time they said there wasn't an offer but then they checked again and sure enough, 3 for 2. Happy man.
yup i got mine for the same ,there was confusion at the checkout when i questioned the full price so the "assistant" ambled off and returned a few minutes later and agreed there was a sign saying 3 for 2
Glad to hear you got the deal, these days you have to stand your ground.
