does anyone have a battery charger fitted in their f/c as in caravans?? thinking of putting one in so that the battery stays topped up when on site but not sure what i need to get etc. cheers
i have a zig in our TT but as a battery charger they are extremely crude ,better off removing the battery or putting in external connection points for a smart charger such as a ring 16 amp etc which looks after your battery far more .
a smart charger would cost less than a zig plus you can use it on other batteries as well the 16 amp version is suitable for batteries up to 200amp the 8 amp version up to 100 amp batteries
cheers for that ...would i just plug into mains when on site???
our f/c has twin electrics but not sure why as there are only the tap and sockets on 12v nothing that would need running whilst on the move...it has me a little perplexed as i'm not sure if i'm missing something??
We have a small cheap battery charger we use off our ehu to charge our battery which is only used for pumping water . We only charge when required and do so while we are in unit.
yes i have switched my battery so i can decide when i want it to charge ,on mains the 12v source is provided by the zig or if there isnt mains i flick the switch on the battery positive so it connects to the zig and comes out the 12v sockets.
if you want to charge your battery you could just use the zig or plug a charger into the EHU to charge your battery or wire up a grey socket on your car and have it do it on the journey.
its cheaper to buy a charger than a new zig ,i got mine for £3 at a boot fair but have a charger as well ,all the zigs used for is the 12v sockets on the TT's trailer i dont need the charging function it has so its not used.for some strange wiring reason in the zig as soon as you switch to the "site" function (mains) rather than the battery function it starts charging ,my switch stops the connection ,the zig doesnt mind its not smart
ok so am i wrong in thinking that the battery should be in the front box??? should i be connecting it in the cupboard or something??? the fact that we have the second electric on the trailer suggests to me that something should be happening(charging) whilst on the move. if not then the second electric is totally redundant???
it could be anywhere ,hunt around for a pair of leads with either battery type terminal connectors on or large ring type connectors that go in the batteries bolts.
it also could just use the cars battery via the trailer connection ,not so good though
