I bought a portable satellite kit from Aldi yesterday.

Just thought i would let people know, this is a bargain. £59.99

Set it up this morning, quickly found Astra 28.2 degrees, Astra19 degrees, Hotbird 13 degrees.

The reciever is very easy to use. sold in maplin £50 just for reciever.

The mounts a bit wierd, and audible satfinders a dog, but reciever has good beeper which comes through tv. very good piece of kit.

Hi do you need a aerial  for the sat to work? also do you need sky card? or can you just pick up free tv?

The dish will work with a sky reciever,

With a home instalation i would always use a 80cm dish, signal can be weak with small dish, particularly in bad weather.

This reciever will replace sky reciever for free channels (provided it's pointing at correct satellite) The reciever is for free channels only not sky, and there are quite a few. The reciever alone is £50 at Maplin. very easy to use menu system.

I tried looking for satellites for around half hour once set up. i found

Astra 28.2 degrees east    (most freeview channels)

Astra19.? degrees east     (a few more general entertainment and wierd)

hotbird 13 degrees east     (a few more english channels)

The reciever does have a childlock to prevent kids watching innappropriate material.

Quite easy to set up, just balanced mine on the garden wall.

In the lake district Astra 28.2 = 152 degrres using compass (approx)

elevation around 22 degrees.

You do have to fit two f connectors, other than that it's childs play once you've set it up two or three times.

Kit includes:

reciever and remote, 39cm folding dish 0.2 lnb, and wierd mount, audible satfinder, patch cable, 10 metres of cable and two f connectors, holdall, and instrucion book and satellite map.

p.s. at the moment no channel 4 or 5, no bbc3 or 4.

As long as your skybox doesn't plug into your home phone.

Plus this reciever is 12v (11 to 14v lead supplied), or 240 volt

My TV uses a 12 volt adaptor, but will not work under 14v when powered from leisure battery 

A decent 0.2LNB costs about £14

A decent reciever £50+

We bought the same thing from Lidl last year. We have an extra sky box for our bedroom and just take that with us when we camp. It should be plugged into a telephone socket but the sky guy told us thats only really for interactive selections so you dont really need it plugged in.

PS DH has ouras clamped to a camera tripod as he found this easier to set up etc
