We bought our FC in 2006 for when it was just 11 months old and saved £1,095 off the RRP in the process. We were lucky because the seller had gone to great lengths to have full electrics fitted professionally -  which brought it almost to Pennine Sterling standards. We've since spent an additional £600 or thereabouts purchasing 2 x matching awning extentions, inner tents, a pair of bed skirts and a matching wardrobe unit.

The very same model as ours with all the extras would now cost £7505! The base price shot up from £4595 to £5595 in one season!!!!!.

As much as I love our FC, I really don't think I could justify paying that sort of money. The reason we looked at a FC in the first place was because it was within our budget. I really wanted a caravan but £3500 didn't afford us the standard of van that I would be happy with (what can I say, I'm fussy!).

What's with the price hikes?

I thought they were pricing them selves out of the market but with fuel the way it is thats the most expensive part of our weekend/week away. Site fees pale into insignificance.

Well compared to other types of holiday it still is a cheap break - some friends of ours go to Florida in 3 weeks and have just been stung with a £680 surcharge...if that was us, we would have to cancel the whole lot as we wouldn't be able to find that sort of money in such a short period of time. Let's hope ferry companies don't start surcharging!!!

That £680 surcharge is a fortnight away for us.

Yesterday a friend said why don't we go abroad. She is single and paying just over £300 for herself for ten days in Sorrento - I said four of us could have a week away for that!!

Its still cheaper for us to holiday here. We don't mind the weather but for some strange reason we always get a good week, whethere in June or October. Last June we had the only good week for weeks. October was lovely too.

I'm also glad that we didn't decide on a campsite further down France....that would have doubled our fuel costs - and I imagine the tolls will have increased too.

when looking in to buying our TT we looked at the cost at renting statics for all six of us to go away in a static for a week on a haven site ( kids love it) we would have paid the cost of our TT in 2 years woth of hoildays and still have the TT for weekend use. Hubby once looked at the cost of going to Grece for a week in school hoildays, it would cost a lot more than it cost us to buy our TT so when you look at it like that its still a cheap holiday for us

I was just saying to DH yesterday that two weeks holiday at a camping and caravanning club site doesn't cost as much as one week in a static caravan or poky little holiday apartment.  Plus with an FC you have the added bonus of going whereever you want whenever you want and having a different view every morning if you want - all for the same price as one week!
