I picked up my 1988 dandy on saturday and I love him. My neighbour watched us put him up on sunday and decided itwas a tardis as it's small on the outside but huge inside. He is currently erected in my garden but I have a few questions that I'm hoping you lovely lot can help me out on.

1. I have the original dandy pvc awning but when I eretced it I had 2 poles left over! one has a plastic foot and the other is just a pole with no 'skinny ends' etc for going inside another pole. I can't work out where they should go.

2. How do you fix the awning bits that wrap round the front of the FC to hide the under bed bits (does that make sense? - I know what I mean!)

3. The FC has been stored folded for quite some time and it smells a little musty. One of the bed boards had some mould which I have treated but it still smells. I can't leave it open too long as it takes up most of my garden so is there anyway I can get rid of the smell and keep it fresh before I fold it up?

4. What type of hitch lock do I need?

Thanks alot.

do you mean under the bed or the side wall that is by the bed? - if you mean the wall - we had a problem with one of them down to water and so to save it and freshen it I painted it with some special mold resistant paint to avoid the problem again and the paint smell masked anything else for a while after too! and it brightened inside as it was an off cream colour instead of the original wood ends.

I don't have the pvc awning so cant help too much on that but it could be that the poles are for something else completely - I know we had spare poles with the canvas one that came with ours - storm poles I think?

Nor can I help with hitch-locks - because I have no clue!

Hello, here goes: -

1. What are the lengths of the 2 poles?  They could be needed to help with point 2.  There should be 2 short poles long enough to fit the gaps under the beds, one about 150mm longer than the other.  These go inside a sleeve at the end of the sides of the awning.

2. There should be a piece of elastic cord with loops on the ends going through a hole in these pieces of PVC.  The loops go onto the "buttons" that hold the cover on.  One on the end of the camper, the other down the side.  These should keep the PVC sheet tight & hide the gap under the beds.

3.You'll need to ensure there is no resident damp in the camper.  Leave it up & ventilated as long as you can.  Clean off all signs of mould with an anti fungal cleaner (or bleach solution).  Check that damp has not got into any of the furnishings or woodwork.  If the timber is rotted as opposed to just mouldy, it will need to be cut out & reoplaced with new.  There is no other cure for rotten timber, it will only ever get worse.

When storing, use dessicant crystals in a de-humidifier.  These suck moisture out of the air & will collect a large quantity of water.

All that said, you will love your Dandy.  We've had ours for nearly 4 years & have been all over Europe in  it.  Go here for more help from like minded folk..

Thanks for that info Steve McV - You are right about the left over poles, I fitted them in the 'tubes' and flapped the underbed covers round and bobs your auntie!

Still find the top of the underbed flaps (for want of a better description) droop down and leave a gap under the bed but I'll bodge something together to fix it.

Many thanks.

This link may be of assistance. Scroll down. The side pieces that are one the awning are held on with shock cord the the buttons on the rear of the trailer normally used for the cover.

As to the hitchlock out 88 Delta has one on as fitted by the manufacturer, But I do not know if it was a option or not.
