we often go without EHU, and really dont miss it as we have plenty of other options that dont even use the battery - ok so we do use the in built 12v light, and the water pump, but other than that, fridge runs off the gas, if we want to use an oven we have the cobb, kettle gets put on the gas ring, we have quite a few solar power lights for the awning - tescos is a great source at the moment - and you dont need much lighting this time of year anyway.  if it gets a little chilly then use a blanket.

we do enjoy our 'off the grid' trips, but at the same time, if we were away for a week or more, we would go for EHU even if it is just to keep the battery topped up at a reasonable rate.

For a weekend I find it cheaper and easier to go off ehu. When we had the four kids with us and it rained it was very expensive if we didn't have hookup for our real holiday.

l - Some good points there, have booked the Dorset team fair this year - which is no EHU so will see how it goes, if not tried out before.

Think will be a bit of both depending on the time of year/weather...

Lots and lots of thanks for all the ideas,

I have both Coleman Dual-fuel cooker and Colemen Dual-fuel Lamp.  Both run on unleaded petrol and give off very good heat.  Wind-up torch is backup.  I have a EHU single unit and have used it for the charging the laptop, phone and camera for one night of a recent 3 week tour.  I also find it is one of the heaviest bits of equipment in the trailer!
