We also went to the Linconshire coast this weekend and had a similar problem with the awning of our Rapido folding caravan. It ripped part of the skirt completely and came off the caravan. I know how you feel but don't give in.
I would like to say a big thank you to whoever picked up and folded up our awning as it had collapsed whilst we were out.
Last year we went Isle of Wight and the tent we had just brought was wrecked by the wind and the rain - I feel slightly jinxed but shall persevere.
Does anyone know where we might be able to get an awning and poles for the Rapido fold up caravan?
never posted before we got a tt used it this weekend and the same thing happend to us we only lost the poles on the awning so its not has bad but we have not got round to insureing it yet so any one got any poles for acabanon mistrel give us a shout
so sorry to hear all the sad tales. Flash, if they are straight poles you need and you have the pole sizes you can get replacement awning poles from tent awning clinic.
We were in Devon at Whitsun in the gales, the bent pole was banged back into shape and another broken one mended, all for only £5. We will also need a new zip to the awning, I don't think that will be quite so cheap! Our boys are fed up and want an ordinary tent but just think how much worse the damage would have been then, tt's do stand up to a lot of wind (inside and out!)
Now we just need to find a campsite for the last 2 weeks of August, near the north coast of Cornwall, they have all been full so far!
camping at donington for the motogp ,got back to my tent after the racing was finished ,and found my tent flattened but held down by one peg, looking round the camp site i think i was one of the lucky ones but i didnt think so when i looked inside, but i can sympathise with you about the wind, but just remember that your fingers will healand the scratch on your car can possibly be repaired ,better luck next time
I know exactly how you feel, we too were caught in high winds and like yourselves had after 20 odd years of camping decided to insure out tt...I am now so glad that we did, we had numerous bent poles, the door zip was blown clean out and the whole thing ended up bent and damaged and I was all for calling it a day, but out came the assessors and it was written off, we have now just chosen a brand new tt, smaller and easier to erect...I am however going to invest in storm straps and storm poles and hope I never experience gales again
Can you afford a caravan and a suitable vehicle to tow it?
We had 3 caravans and 2 different LR Discovery's, all new, and they were all dangerously unstable. We spent years and a fortune trying to sort them out and eventually after a near disaster on the M1 took them home and sold them.
We eventually discovered folding campers, which we found brilliant in every way. They are much easier to set up than a tent and you are off the floor with all the mod cons of a caravan like h/c water and sprung interior mattresses. But are a third of the weight and can be towed with an economical car and are totally stable.
We have just sold our Pullman but regret we did not discover them 20 years ago.
I know how you feel - we took our folding camper and awning down in highwinds in Norfolk - it was awful! Soon afterwards we bought a storm strap and have never had to use it, so I think such incidents are fairly rare, I hope the insurance is soon sorted, and try not to to be too despondent, if you have wanted and saved for this I wouldn't give up just yet : )
