Due to an operation in late January and some stupid "post op" pains it became obvious that fighting my 8 birth tunnel tent was no longer an option. So decided to pop out and take a look at some folding campers. Oh, what can I say? Impulse buy maybe? Well I am now £4800 lighter lol.

It is a 2002 model. Looks great :) anything a new FC owner should know regarding this model, how too look after it, how to keep the thing secure and any idea what the insurance should be on it?

I have a lot to learn, not even sure what to do regards charging the battery. The fridge, it has a "I" and a "O" on the switch, the dealer said he thought "O" was on but that doesn't seem right lol.

Do you ever use a telly in these? No obvious place to put it which might be a good thing.

Part of me feels like I have just inherited some rare siberian lesser spotted tree snake and if I do not look after it correct it will die and that will be a crime.

Pullmans are lovely, I would reccommend the owners club, We ahve our insurance through them. I think your fridge is the same three way one as ours? If so I for on either battery or mains (battery is just towing) and a dial on the right for the gas option start on the big flame and go down to a smaller one depending on the weather. You can leave the quilts on the beds and the curtains on wires up when you fold.

We have just bought one as well, 2005 pullman.  I can't wait to use it.  We bought ours privately and it is in fantastic condition.    Scouring the internet for information.  How much is insurance?

Hi, we have also just bought a 2005 pullman.

Had an insurance quote from caravan guard (contacted via the uk camp site) £92.00 including premium tax.

I don't need the premium tax, just bog standard tax will do :D


OK, as I have mentioned I am not the fittest of people at the moment (literally spent the last 7 months sitting down or lying down at hospital or at home). And I have only had the pullman for one day. So I guess I can honestly say this is the easiest thing ever.

With the legs already down I timed it today, bare in mind I can not rush at all. it took me less than 15 mins on my own. About the same to pack the thing up. It felt, physically, like walking. So if you can imagine what a 15 min walk feels like then thats how you feel after spending 15 mins putting it up.

The sun was beating down hard, I opened the two end windows and hey it was nice and cool. I am not really used to sitting inside a tent to cool down as all of mine have been nylon.

Anyway a quick question.
I have noticed a few folks mention they use quilts, is that the norm? i was going to use sleeping bags.

Quilts are popular. They can't fall off because of the design of the bedroom inners, they stay in place when the beds are folded so less work. I also prefer to use fitted sheets on the mattresses to keep they clean. No reason at all why you can't use sleeping bags though.

We use fitted double sheets on both the beds and quilts as well, we have a double on our bed and I use a single quilt in a double cover on the littl'uns bed as it's easier to tuck him in. These get strapped to the bed when folding and the pillows and cushions go in the wardrobe.

In the Pathfinder and also in the both the Pullmans we had we put the TV on the cupboard on the left as you go in the door and use an indoor booster aerial.

We have always used Richard Keen Insurance and because we are members of the Pennine Owners Club they give us a discount which is then given to the Owners Club and this is used to help subsidise meets (2008 prices are £36 for a bank holiday meet (3 nights), £20 for a normal weekend (2 nights), and £15 per night for the holiday meet (any number of nights)

I found this guide on one of the insurance sites giving a rough cost for the amount insured. I have phoned a few companies last month for quotes and have found them all to be within a few quid of this. We have renewed our insurance with Richard Keen in May.

On the right even (blonde moment there.......I have quite a few of those).

At the end of each season I take out the bedroom and roof liners, pillow cases, sheets, duvet covers and curtains. The pillows and cushions stay in the wardrobe and the duvets stay strapped to the beds. Some take the mattresses and seating out and remove the canvas for the winter but we never had.

I wash the bedding and store that along with the other stuff in the house over the winter then at the beginning of the next season I wash everything before putting it back in the camper (makes it smell fresher)

Congratulations you are in for some fun.

We have just had to sell our Pullman because of infirmity but aside from that we thoroughly enjoyed it and wish we has found the earlier. The fc was much better than any of the caravans and motorcaravans we had previously.

There is nothing better than waking up under a duck down duvet on that king sized luxury bed with the smell of grass and sunshine coming through the canvas.
