We are still looking for a tt we were outbid on three on ebay. Is it just me or are the prices at the moment for tt steep. I know it coming into season for camping but i think people are paying OTT for them. One we liked and were outbid on was a conway canterbury 1982 it for £975. we have decided to look at private sellers in papers etc.

What is a reasonable price for a conway aged between 1985 - 1996 seen a few advised privately about these sort of years. Have seen a conway colt 1988 and a conway cambridge dl 1994. Any help would be appreciated.

    Thanks Jo

I think folding campers are going too cheap or not at all. Trailer tents seem expensive in comparison.

A good time to trade the TT for a FC???   TT's do seem to be creeping up - I like to keep an eye on these things!  October is usually the best time to buy if you don't mind the months dragging by until you can actually get it out and use it..... I'd definitely watch these threads for all the lovely folks who put on ebay bargains which seem to be going un-noticed.

The Canterbury would have been a 1992, not 1982, and so while  £975 would be top whack for it, it's not outrageous if it had a lot of extras.

Yes, it's an expensive time of year for buying TTs. Everyone is thinking ahead to summer holidays and there's only a few weeks for you english folk to get ready for them. If you could wait till the end of september, you'd get one half the price.

It's difficult to advise on prices for such a wide range of models as were made between 1985 and 1996. A 1994 Cambridge in good condition could fetch as much as the Canterbury for example. A good condition Colt though? £400 tops at the moment, if it had extras?

Your best bet for bargains is your local paper, as you say. But even then it's a sellers market.

Sorry the Canterbury was a 1992 Val my mistake got carried away typing.

Just been to look at a Colt was in good condition trailer and canvas but no extras but was £200 but i'm off to see a 1994 cambridge tomorrow with extras they asking £500 so gona keep my options open at moment.

But has people say end of season would be best time to buy but we want now so we gona have to pay alittle more than i'd hoped. We go away in few weeks and really want a bit more comfort than the tent we have plus more space for kids if it rains it will be worth it.

Interesting thread. We have got to get around to selling our 1996 Conway Coniston and I checked out eBay to see what sort of price I might get for it. One without bells and whistles (and a small tear in it somewhere I think)  went for under £400 whereas another one wchih was more like ours, with the extra 1m midway extension and sun canopy, fridge box and underbed tents went for £919 a couple of weeks back. Thought that was a lot. Not sure where to pitch ours. Thought about £750?  It's in excellent condition. We bought it in 2000 - the previous owners having only used it once and we've used it 8 times but only ever for 4 or 5 days at a time. The sun canopy (with 2 optional side walls) has only been used twice. Anyone any views on what price I should advertise it at?

As a buyer i would say put starting price a bit lower and put a reserve price the lower the bidding starts the more it will attract people and will bid more. If starting price too high you may not have much interest people like to think they are getting a bargin i do, thats my opinion hope this helps. good luck with selling it.

My advice is if you're intending to sell a TT on Ebay then get it out, put it up, with everything tight and neat and take fifty or sixty good pix of it with a digicam and choose the best 10. None of this "Oh I can't peg it down on the drive" stuff. Invest £15 on a night at the local campsite putting it up and add ££££ to the selling price.

I have a mild interest in looking at TTs on Ebay and I'm amazed at how bad some of the pictures and descriptions are. A crumpled heap of grimey looking canvas will not attract bids, nor will "I haven't opened it to check so not sure what's there." Yet I've also seen older units go for excellent prices because of the good pictures and precise, informative  descriptions. Damage? Describe it and show a picture. Extras? Line em up and take a picture. Make the beds with a nice matching duvet and pillows, so it looks inviting. I draw the line at tablecloths...unless you have the original one Conway used to supply to match the curtains, lol. And for goodness sake, if the poles have lost springs and buttons then shell out £5 for a couple of packs of them, do the repair and then be able to say "All poles are fully sprung and have working buttons." You'll get your money back for this!

Agree with all of that Val. However, I was just using eBay as a guide as to what price to put on the tt as I would prefer to sell it myself, from home where I can set it all up and show it to people really. Space isn't an issue - we have plenty of room to set it up. Whilst it may make more on eBay if several bidders are in competition with one another I'd rather just sell it for a set price, take it or leave it even if I ended up with a bit less.

to be honest Jan could not see what all the fuss was about with Tents,Trailer Tents until we had to put our F/C up in the rain (5/10 mins if that) children out of the car and in the dry, sorted out the inside pretty sharpish too,but i still got soaked to the skin cos i couldn't sit there and watch my fellow campers struggling in the wet so pitched in to help them out

I was just looking at the prices of TT's on ebay and was shocked at how massive the depreciation is Can something that was £3000 new 3 years ago really only be worth £900 or less now?

I want to sell my Cabanon Saturn DL but now I don't have a clue what price to ask for it.

Tent value depends massively on whether it has been looked after. Many people here (including me) will have seen or owned tents which have seen 30 years out with no problems whatsoever.

The trouble is, it's difficult to tell just by looking at ebay photos what the condition is, and the minimum price is set by the person who may have been doing the abusing. There are a few pointers, though.

Look at the seam thread, not the canvas. If it has been up for years at a time the thread will have rotted and may have come unravelled a bit. If it's been stored outside, the cover may be knackered, or brand new.

I've seen 1992 Conways that I would be happy to pay over a grand for with no issues. I've also seen 3-yo tents I wouldn't pay £500 for. The issue apart from obvious damage (rips, damp, mice etc.) is sun damage.

Now, you can get a bargain on a 'demonstrator' model from some shops, but think about it. If its been up and sun damaged continuously for a year, how much camping does that correspond to? For some people, that's 20 years of camping!

I would always say if you want a brand new trailer tent, then buy one ex-works, and be the sort of person who wants to keep it for 30 years in really good nick, waterproofed every other year at least (I do it every year; the waterproofing also helps protect against UV damage), and under cover.

Otherwise, get a 5-yo model and keep it for 5 years. Unless it's a Sunncamp, you won't lose too much money.
