I have a new Conway Crusader and I would like a motor mover put on to it.... It has an Alko chassis which seems to come to a "V" shape on the axis just where the motor mover would go. This makes it particularly low to the floor.
Will this present a problem?
If not, What sort of Motor mover could I use?
Any advice would be helpful as no one has given me a definitive answer including the shop I brought it from.
Hi, contact powertouch they will send you out details of how to measure and provide them with sufficient information. They told me that because sometimes the chassis if different from crusader to crusader (including same year manufacture) that sometimes it is regarded as a special but the bottom line is that yes you can get one, you may just have to pay a bit more. Worth researching their price match and getting quotes elsewhere to give you a good base price to start with beofre you start adding extra's/special fitting etc. Bolan
We have a pathfinder and we had to crawl around on the floor to give powrtouch the information they required ours had to go behind the wheel with spacers. It works really well though. I think the chassis varies with in the year so you do have to get under and study it. We had my husband at the storage under it with his mobile while I spoke to powrtouch !!
------------- Good friends are hard to find, difficult to leave and impossible to forget.
hi i have a powertouch mover on our Crusader ,like jan says it fits behind the wheels rather than in front , due to the strengthing on the floor for the wash room , all the fitter needed were some drop plates which he had to fit it to the chassis , something to do with depth of chassis rail , go for it you will never regret it ,
Lots of talk of Powrtouch here so thought I should give my experience of them.
We have a compact version fitted as this is what they said we needed based upon the pictures we sent them. Just happened to be £100 more aswell.
Also hasn't worked properly since we bought it. I put a post on here recently with the details.
Powrtouch have been less than helpful so far with poor advice and its been difficult to get an engineer out.
Still waiting for one to contact us after 2 weeks.
I suppose the advice is to think about after service aswell. I'm sure most movers are fine - but Powrtouch really big up their 5 year warranty. It's when things go wrong that you really find out what a company is like and in our experience - so far - they have not been great. This was also the experience of someone who replied to my other thread.
we have had a Rhyno mover fitted to our pullman. No mucking about with 'send us the measurements'. Rang up told them what i want, got a lifetime guarantee and their fitter is a folding camper man himself. Best thing we did.
I took my CarverTruma motor mover off our previous caravan and fitted it to our Crusader. It fitted without any problems and we used it for 3 years. I did not need special drop plates though as Jan says above I needed a couple of metal spacers (strips of steel 8cm by 2cm by 0.5cm) one on each side to provide a bit of clearance under the chassis. Don't let them charge you more than a couple of pounds for these, they are simply because the gauge of metal used in the Crusader chassis is slightly thinner than that used on caravans. It fitted behind the wheels. I also had a cross-over actuator. There was plenty of room for it underneath the Crusader. We have taken the Crusader on Norway and Ireland car ferries, and over several fiord ferries in Norway, without any problems of it fouling the steep loading ramps. The motor mover would easily move the fully laden Crusader and was ideal for hitching and for putting the Crusader on a leveller, and would go up quite steep slopes. It would work off an 85ah or 110ah battery
I fitted the control box next to the mains charger and took the power cables direct to the battery. Whole thing took a morning to fit myself and an hour to remove when we sold the Crusader.
Our new unit has a Powrtouch mover which is frankly much the same as the Carver, only I do not like the soft start as it is too slow.
