Hi all , with the desperate weather that we are getting at the moment I thought I would check what others do with regards to rain...our f/c is sat on our drive and when it has rained the water puddles on top of the transit cover. OH goes out and sweeps it off occasionally but I was wondering what others do. Do you bother?? If left alone will the water eventually penetrate the cover?? Any ideas on stopping the puddling??
my camplet has got a hard top so the huge puddle on the cover doesn't bother it, it only annoys me :) but i got 3 footballs,a water bottle and a shopping basket under there at the moment and its still finding gaps inbetween all the bits to puddle!!

All I do is to park the FC so that water runs off - i.e. jack up the front of the unit on the jockey wheel so that it is higher than the back of the unit. Or vice-versa if you prefer.

Yes, my Combi tansit cover isn't completely waterproof and puddles and drips through. Over the winter I had an extra tarp on top to protect it but at this time of year when it's off every weekend I don't bother with that as it flaps too much for towing and it's a faff taking it on & off.
I wind up the jockey quite high so any water that does get through runs out and off the back (I do this in winter as well) and I make sure everything stored on top is in waterproof containers.

If you can't see the light at the end of the tunnel, just keep going till you go round the bend.
Put the spare wheel (in a bag) or a ball under the cover to create a high spot, and/or leave it with the hitch end raised or lowered so the water drains.
I just put 2 small plastic footballs under the winter cover which after every trip i cover the camper with .Also keep camper tilted via the jockey wheel and you will find that not much rain pools. But if left it will eventually find its way through the cover.
Have you thought of using an all weather breathable cover over your fc? Keeps the sides and back and front clean, plus you can make it less likely to pool water by using empty water/fizzy drinks bottles or footballs, washing baskets etc to make a ridge in the cover. That is what i do and it works a treat!
Thanks for the replys guys...I had tried to put bubble wrap under the cover but it kept moving...we have got the hitch end lower but the water pools where the underbed legs are. Dont fancy putting anything too high under the cover as I don't want to stretch it.Will have to look at putting something flat under so as to eliminate the ridges caused by the legs.
You must stop water gathering on the transit cover or it will split the cover or run in through the seams. First of all check the level of the driveway or surface on which the trailer is parked. Then lower the jockey wheel to increase the slope to ensure water runs off with gravity.
A further necessary safegaurd is to invest in a tarpaulin sheet from Screwfix (£20 for one big enough to completely wrap the entire trailer). This will both keep the water out and the dirt and bird poo off the trailer.
Before laying it over make a string of 2 litre milk containers and tie them on to form a ridge from front to back. Then tie in place the sheet using polypropelene rope or elastic cord.
Additional benefits of the above is it makes the trailer very hard to pinch, keeps the sun off the tires and covers the battery box and other doors thus keeping the water and thieves out.
Once the fc was out of the garage for summer we found the above made life much easier.
