We have a pennine pullman which has 2 sockets inside the camper. However this isn't enough for our needs and would really like to run an extension cable from one of them into the awning to use ou there. Just wanted to know how many of you do this? Is it safe? Will I overload the system? Any thoughts would be appreciated. Thanks!

As long as the extension lead is used safely I don't see a problem.

Regarding overloading the system it depends on the equipment you intend to use.

WE use four camping lights in our trailer tent.

2 are battery operated whereas the other 2 are rechargeable lights with remote controls.

Regarding the kettle we would rather use a gas one although it is only for 2 people.

Isnt't it better to use a lawnmower instead of a hoover?

We do the same - extension lead into the awning and we always use our home-made awning light (mains) and our little electric oven (£20 or so from argos). Never had a problem with overloading but we always unroll the whole extension lead to stop the cable overheating! Plus sometimes we plug in the telly or radio for evening entertainment. I suggest you keep all electric stuff off the ground as damp can cause earth leakage trouble.

Happy Camping

i'v wired our TT so theres an outlet for a tent style EHU ,the campsite electrics go into the TT cab where it splits into two one goes to a trip for two 240v sockets and a zig the other goes straight through and comes out a socket identicle to the campsites so the EHU merely plugs in there instead of the campsites post (the posts goes to a caravan style lead into a socket on the TT) if we dont use the TT then the EHU hasnt been changed so its still usable in our other tents.
the zig supplies the 4 12v sockets either off the mains or leisure battery if we cant get any ,our telly and freeview box (my mrs wont go without them) are 12v or mains (hence the two new 240v sockets),the other two sockets are for striplights in the bedrooms.
so long as you dont take two many amps in the total wiring setup its fine

We use one and I always keep the sockets  off the ground. I usuallty have a set of 2 bulkhead style awning lights and the kids DVD or the fridge and the 3rd socket is the heater OR the travel kettle and I have not blown it up yet. I have to admit we have it not necessarity cus we want to plug lots in but more where it is convenient to have a plug.

Thanks , you are right . It is for convenience not cos I want to put loads of things on at once. I get fed up climbing in and out of the camper everytime I need to plug something in.

We use a normal household extension in the awning plugged into the outside socket, when we had the pullman it plugged inside and the wire ran through the velcro on the canvas, and the main socket bit sits on a table for the kettle, kids ds chargers etc.

Hi Fatbloke,

Which Zig unit did you use to do this setup any tips or photos of your setup? It's something I've had in mind for ages, first when we had the oceane and now with the conway explorer. Would make the unit complete in my eyes..

Cheers
