Think this year is to follow old meet friends for 2014.
If you cant do someone a good turn, don`t do them a bad one,its nice to be nice you know, and little things mean much more later in life.

Karen, did you get the weight figures from your car or from the Renault website? They have changed the model slightly so your car may be different to the current spec and you may be ok.

My hubby has had a look and he says the tow limit for our car is 1300kg and the fc is 950kg limit so that is ok - so i now i just need hubby to check the gross train weight i think???? no i need him to check the weight of the car and then add the 950kg of the fc to it??? Oh this is so confusing - if it is less than 3500kg combined i am ok to tow if not test here we come...

Ok the gross weight of the car which i presumme is the cars MAM is 2195 according to hubby and the MAM of the fc is 950 so therefore it is 3145 which is less than 3.5!!! and as the website says the MAM of the trailer must be less than the unladen weight which is the kerb weight??? whaich is 1530??

Yes, as I said before you are within 3500 Kgs and at less than 100% of kerweight of car so don't need to take another test.

But we still need to resolve the issue of whether you are exceedng the max trainweight for the car. I think you should check this with Renault. If the Police stop you and the trailer's MAM is 950 Kgs and the car's MAW of 2,195 Kgs added to it exceeds the maximum train weight for the car then it doesn't matter when you passed the test, the driver will be breaking the Law.

Hubby has just said and i don't know where he has got this from the actual towing allowance for our car is 1300kg which would exceed their own gross train weight if the info i got on their website was right so the gross train weight must be wrong - will get hubby to check where he found his info out as i prefer it!!!

Hi, we tow a Pennine Sovereign (935kg) with a 1.6 petrol Renault Scenic (normal chassis).  I have just checked the weights in the car's handbook and it states:

Maximum permissible towing weight unbraked:  650kg

Maximum permissible towing weight braked - driver only: 1300kg

                                                         - other situations: 1000kg

Gross Train Weight: 2950

However, it also has the weights for the Grand Scenic (weights vary depending on model but are within the ranges below), which are very surprising:

Maximum permissible towing weight unbraked:  650kg

Maximum permissible towing weight braked - driver only:  1250 - 1300kg

                                                         - other situations:  750 - 850kg

Gross Train Weight: 2950 - 3050

This info was taken from a 2005 manual, so obviously the weights may vary by year, but as suggested before, check with Renault if the information is not available in your manual.

Hope this helps!

Thank you - yes we have just found out that the grand scenic is actually worse than the scenic - makes think as our fc is french and obv renault is the F850kg is for the france so they don't blow their own legal limits - hhhmmmm what to do...

Hope you get it sorted ok. It seems crazy to me that a big MPV can't handle an FC, when other MPVs tow quite sizeable caravans.
