Are these any good? I have found that the one in ours, although it freezes ice cubes without a problem in the freezer compartment, the fridge itself just doesn't work properly. I have a fridge thermometer in there and it never reads anywhere near as cool as it should be. Last weekend whilst in Somerset the fridge was reading 18 degrees C during the day! Ok it was 30 deg C outside but surely it should work better than that? It usually runs on electric but I have ran it on gas and still no luck. Could it be that the refrigerant needs agitating? i.e. fridge turning upside down for a couple of hours?

Any help would be appreciated.

Mine is fine on gas or electric but never seems to be worth the effort towing.

It's a common fault on some mobile fridges, as they take a bit of bumping about in a caravan or folding camper. Check that the door is fully sealed when the pin at the top is fastened. and that the rubber seal isn't damaged or has gone hard. The fastener on mine can be adjusted to close the door tighter to the carcase of the fridge but also make sure the door isn't twisted. any gaps and the cold air will leak out.

It's always level. I use a spirit level to level the camper. Besides if it wasn't level surely none of the fridge would work, but the freezer compartment works very well.

Our fridge works really well even if it is stuffed full or food & beer! Check the thermostat is working on electric, set the fridge to its coldest setting & see if that helps, check the vents on the side of the camper are not full of spiders/leaves/rubbish plus if on gas check for blockages in 'exhaust' and turn the gas up full! If it is still pathetic it may be worth taking your unit to a main dealers for a check out. If your main dealer is miles away, try a caravan dealer as the fridge works the same way in a fc.

My suggestion was that it could be "too full" - as I always thought fridges needed to have air circulation in order to run effectively...that said, with the size of the fridge it is very difficult not to have it full!

Ours seems to take a good while to cool down, but once it's there it is not bad - certainly much cooler than 18 degrees so this would perhaps suggest a fault in yours.  Does the metal rack bit at the back (not in the freezer compartment) feel very cold when the fridge has been on a few hours? - this is what I check to ensure it is on and working and it normally feels quite icy?

I believe you can light the gas and also run it via electric at the same time and it will cool down much quicker (that's a Ro88o0 tip Darren!) but I haven't tried that myself.

According to the manual when you switch it to gas it automatically shuts off the mains and battery, so unless he has had some sort of mod done on his then I'm not sure that's possible? I'll ask him at Pickering.

It does work better on gas than electric but it's not right, I'll have a good look at Pickering. I'm thinking that it's probably the door seal, as the freezer compartment works well and this has a separate door on it to keep it cold.

I'm hoping it's something simple as a new one is not far off £400

We took a cool box with us to France last week to use just for liquids. Because the camper fridge was not being constantly opened for juice and wine we found that it kept the food far colder than normal. Also it wasn't overpacked with bottles which helped. We put the cooler in the awning which was far more convenient for drinks too. I don;t know if I imagine it but sometimes our fridge works better than on different sites. Could this be to anything to do with the hook up I wonder?

My son had the same problem,he took it out and cleaned out the flue,it was full off scale,he then removed the burner unit and jet and cleaned it he pricked the jet clean with a bristle from a wire brush,it now work very well on all three positions.also check the flue to make sure the vortex plate is not blocking the flue.

Hi Darren, that's really weird because we have the same problem with our Sovereign, so I will be interested in knowing how you resolve it.  We tend to use an electric coolbox for the majority of our food/drink.

Ours works really well even in hot weather.  We do use a coolbox for drinks and larger items, but the fridge is great.
