Hi

This might sound like a silly question, but as a newbie to trailer tenting, how would I change my spare if I had a puncture?

I assume I need a jack to lift the trailer, but haven't seen any for sale yet so thought I'd better ask.

And yes I have got RAC Arrival cover, but presumably I'd need to have all the equipment if I did call them out?

I don't think it's a silly question.  The car's own jack is unlikely to be any good.  I found a scissors jack works OK (trolley jack for servicing at home).

It's also worth checking the wheel brace in the car fits the wheel nuts on the Saturn; you might need a separate one.

Lidl had folding wheel braces (£2.99), which look ideal for use on a trailer tent-just remember to pack it somewhere accessible!

With regards to a jack I generally keep a small trolley jack in the car but would have thought any scissor jack or bottle jack would suffice (A scissor jack would be lighter).

Try your local scrap yard..generally, they'll have hundreds of unwanted jacks and wheel braces to choose from.

It's worth checking though whether your car jack/brace is suitable..if so it's a couple of less items to carry..

I've got those daft tubeless tyres, so haven't got a jack or probably a brace either.

Will get sorted before next trip.

I must check out the car jack to see if that will fit!  I do know that my corner steady handle fits the wheel nuts on the trailer. Dont lift the wheel off the ground with the corner steadies, you will risk twisting the chassis.

To be honest, don't think I'd be strong enough anyway  but glad you said as I wouldn't have thought of that.

And I'll check the corner steadies brace for the trailer wheel nuts, before I get a new one.

In effect I'd be calling out the RAC if on the road, or a relative if at home.  But not sure if the RAC, even with Arrival cover, would have a jack/brace with them so best to carry them with me I thought.

Does your RAC cover include the trailer or is it just for the car? Our RAC cover doesn't cover the trailer at all.

Good point Rob, I'm with green flag, covers trailer as well as car. They are a lot cheaper than the RAC or AA, (the AA wouldn't cover my trailer) and I think just as good.  2 years ago the glass on the drivers door stuck then fell inside the door, they arrived 45 mins later and fixed it no problem, and it was pouring with rain.  I think they use a fairly local garage.

I always apply a little "copper ease" to the threads and only do the nuts up hand-tight with a wheel brace. Never had one so much as move.

(I started doing this when I tried to undo a wheel bolt on a car that'd been done up by kwik-fit. The bolt snapped it had been done up that tight. I ended up snapping a second bolt and had to replace the whole wheel hub!)

I was already with RAC and when I joined C&CC I spotted they were promoting RAC Arrival cover for trailers.  As a member of C&CC I upgraded my RAC to Arrival for free, so the car and trailer would be taken to site if needed and also returned home if problem not sorted by end of stay.

But will compare against Green Flag when it's time to renew.
