I have a erde 122 trailer. We have, since purchasing this trailer, purchased a larger tent, wolf lake 7. We have a large roof box, that we would like to put on top if the trailer. Now erde do some roof bars at Halfords, but they're £100! We would like to know if there is another make that we can use, or if anyone has some suggestions for us. It's pointless us getting roof bars for the car, as we're only keeping it for another few months and we know that the next model car, the roof bars just won't fir, plus i don't want to be purchasing new roof bars every 2/3 years, everytime we change the car. Plus we have 2 different makes of cars, and therefor, it makes more sense putting the box on the trailer, were i can keep all items in the trailer more secure.

I would be very greatful for anyone who has had this dilema before and has overcome it!! (without breaking the bank!)

xx Ann-Marie xx

Our trailer tent had a rack fitted by the original owner, unfortunately the rack itself was pinched but the brackets (bolt-on)are still on the trailer.
I'm currently looking to have a rack made up incorporating 'roof-rails a similar diameter to those on my Citroen C4 Grand Picasso. Rather than buy the Citroen cross rails I have a set of adjustable ones from from Motor World which were not cheap, but still less than the Citroen ones and I can use them on our other car.
Unfortunately it's still going to cost a lot more than I'd like but it will be 'portable' from trailer to trailer as well as cars.

Hi, would imagine you would have to adapt bars designed for car cars with rain pockets, but you would have to be careful. The trouble is the trailer section has a square lip and rain pockets are quite thin,so may slip.

Erde spares are expensive, they do two different bars one been slightly different to suit ABS cover.

I had to deal with a chap the other day who adapted his vw golf bars to fit a Ford Mondao and his rack with 4 bikes on came off on the M6,lucky for everyone it landed on the hard shoulder.

So if you go down the DIY option make sure that the bars are secure or it will not be worth saving a few quid

O. Thanks laws69. Didn't think that that would really happen. Lucky for the chap, that no one got hurt. Think i'll have to keep hunting for good deals on the erde trailer bars then. Just spent a fortune on tent and new trailer this year ( well over £1000) and didn't really want to spend too much more, but i also don't want anything like that happening to me either!! Back to square one , me thinks!!

Thanks for the advice!!

Ambrow trailers in Christchurch, Dorset sell adjustable trailer bars for about £60 if I remember correctly. Their website is down at the moment though.

Oooh! Thanks for that avctaylor! I'll have to look out for that one! We're going down to Potsmouth in a couple of weeks time, for our friends wedding. Hubby's just said that Christchurch shouldn't be too far out of our way, so we may pop in!! Hope they are around that price, as we are looking at erde load bars at the moment, and they're looking at about £100!! (without postage!) If these do, that would a smart saving!!

Many thanks!! Smashing!!

We had the same size trailer but sold it last year. We had the same problem as you but in the end decided to increase the sides with Marine wood/painted silver it did the job.
