I'm in the same position now - the kids (15 & 18) don't always want to come so I have to have something I can do on my own with no help.
Funnily enough, this weekend they are argueing because both want to come and I only have a 2 berth caravan now, when I had a 5 berth caravan daughter never wanted to come.

We have a 2004 Gobur 10/2S. Wonderful little van. (albeit quite an expensive as previously noted)
No drawbacks at all. Quicker to set up than a FC.
As I see it, in addition to the drying out consideration, the only real advantage over FC is that it is truly 4 season. On saying that, being made of 2 layers of insulated pvc and having hard sides, in my view, so is the Dandy Destiny.
How about the Rapido Exportmatic? It is huge when erected but when packed down is just a small trailer. I looked at one some time ago, and the Exportmatic, besides being the top and largest, has spring struts to assist the opening-up process; it also has seperate compartments for kitchen and toilet (well, one can use a Porta-Potti) A mate has the small model, but it is so roomy, and the setting up is a doddle. We would have got one but once I showed the OH the range of FCs, she was hooked on the idea of a proper kitchen and H & C and built in toilet etc, so we have the Pathfinder. But those Rapido folders are very compact for towing and worth a look.
Selling my Rapido exportmatic on ebay next week as just upgraded to a caravan.
It is a 6 berth 1 double bed and 2 double bunk beds with all the poles and cushions to make the bunks up. no leaks no damp. folding caravan are great and easy to tow.
Must admit, if I had the money, I would be tempted Bob - Exportmatic is one of the ones thats taken my fancy. Can you tell me whether one person could put it up on their own?
Hi Terry 1person can put it up but would have a lot of difficulty it really takes two and it takes about 15/20 mins from start to finish was you have done it a few times. Mine comes with the origanal awning and has been fitted with 3 double & 1 single 240v socket. one 12v & 1 240v light and a transformer for the 12v system.

Thanks for this Bob, might have to re think my preferred unit - shame, I like the Exportmatics. I'd be okay if my son came with me but if it was just me and my daughter (who's a toddler) then I would struggle.
Dandy is the way forward. PVC so you can pack it wet. No rot or horrible smells. I fitted gas struts off Rover 25 tailgates myself to mine, so it goes up with one finger. Lightweight, pull mine with a 1.4 skoda. Last for years too.
Had a Dandy Steve, too heavy for me to manage on my own and I don't have the skills to fit gas struts. I was alright doing up the inside and replacing some of the water pipes but struts are beyond me! Oh well, I'll see what units are around when I have the money.
Clarabell, have a look at the light weight small caravans.
We swopped for the same reason as you, I was always worried uncase it rained, which it usually did! Also you dont have to pack up all the time cos you can leave it all in the van, which is great for us!
We brought a little Freedom, for the same price as we sold our Conway Challenger for, it only weighs bit more, we tow it with our Ford Focus 1.4, just been 1,200 miles to France and back!
Have a look here http://www.campersandleisure.co.uk. We bought our Fleurette from them & they also stock folding caravans. We tow our Fleurette with a 1.5 Nissan Micra with ease, our previous car was a 1.2 Micra & that coped well too.
The max laden weight of the Fleurette is 750kg but is a 2 berth, they do make a larger model that comes in around 1000kg.
Have a look at their website & they are based in Ringwood in the New Forest so not too far from Surrey, we live in West London so easy for us too.
Good luck with your search, we traded in our f/c & never regretted it, we love our little van!
