Can anyone help me? I have recently bought a 1994 Dandy Destiny with an underfloor heater. I know they are good but this one has suffered a bit. At some point it has been covered over while still on and the knobs have melted and seized. Does anyone know where I might be able to get bits for it or even where to get a replacement heater?

As I understand it you can't get them any more but I remember someone saying that there is a place in Holland that has spares. Post your question on

http://www.1-3stationroad.freeserve.co.uk/ and

http://autos.groups.yahoo.com/group/Dandyowners/

and hopefully someone can help you.

Thanks, tentmad.  When I'm dressed and can get out to the trailer I'll check up on that. The heater just hangs down below the floor and works with two knobs. One turns it Off/High/Low.  The other is the ignition button which you press. Other than melting unsuspecting shoes I think it's a wonderful heater...silent and can be left on all night if need be.

it sounds exactly like mine but i dont understand how it could have melted as you have to put a metal plate over it and ours has what can only be described as a cattle grid on top of that so may be the on off button has broken and someone has glued it together and its got glued off

It's exactly the same. You can see the scorch marks where it has as near as damn it caught fire. Dandy have the "cattle grid" too but when the heater isn't being used they provide a lump of wood carpeted to match the rest of the trailer.  That had been put back on instead of the grid.  If you can help me with where to get bits I'd be every grateful.  I couldn't find a name on the fire anywhere when I had a wee look.

Hello there Campaholic,

If you underfloor heater is the same as the one in my Pennine Aztec it is called the "Riviera Caravan Comfort" certainly from the description you give it sounds the same heater.

Anyhow, the UK agent for those heaters is Rondo Developments, 1 manor close, Graet Harrowden, Wellingborough,Northants, NN9 5AG,  Tel 0933 677461 ( I would imagine that there will now be a "1" after the initial zero in the phone number.

Hope you get it sorted out.

Paul.

Cheers for that info, Paul.  I'll get on the case tomorrow. Luckily I don't think I'll need to have any heating on for a couple of months yet.

My heater is working again, hooray. The ignition was the same as on my big gas griddle so we "stole" that and the on/off knob unseized with a bit of help after the melted plastic was removed.  All I need now is a knob for it but a screwdriver does the job just fine.  Roll on the Winter now!!
