How do you go about having your canvas on a folding camper replaced and how much (good rough estimate would do) about does it cost?
I have bought a late 70's folding camper made by Coleman - model named Gettysburg. Although it's a bit old, it's still in great condition and we got it at BARGAIN price as it needed a few repairs. We've done half of these now (mainly sewing) and we have also replaced the flooring and recovered the seats (in the middle of doing the beds) and are about to make a new table after acquiring folding table legs. Although there are still four corners to sew we are confident that we (the proverbial we - DH promises to help unless the football is on). It's had a good clean and all of the gas has been checked and the lights, just need to hook it up to the mains now to test the plug sockets but are more than prepared to buy a new electric hook up if needed.
Any advice or help would be grately appreciated on what to look out for and any additional checks i'll need to make.
Tent Valeting Services in Bolton do new canvases. Not sure how much it would cost (but they're not cheap)! Their work looks very nice though. We are thinking of having a tailor made awning from them.
A comparison for you a new canvas for the pennine or conway is about £1000 http://www.tentrepairs.com/ a link for you

Our Conway Cruiser which we bought a month or so ago, was sound but the canvas was very dirty, and had several holes. The bedroom liners and roofliner had all lost most of their hooks to connect to the poles and these had been replaced in some places with bits of string. So we took it to Graham at TVS and he has finished our new cabin canvas and will refit it ready for us to collect NEXT WEDNESDAY . not that we are excited mind ! Anyway, this is costing £1,000, a new awning is £850. (for the Conway cruiser) But they do a brilliant job, so many people have recommended them to us and they can't all be wrong
Will let you know when we get it back.

Always good to have a personal recommendation. The awning we're considering is expensive compared to an equivalent sized off the shelf item. This is of course understandable because of the made to measure nature of the goods. However, expensive doesnt always equal quality, so its good to hear that in this case, that does seem to be the case.
Can I ask another question which might sound daft but, if we take our trailer up there at this time of year, will they store it under cover as we would at home, or do they keep the units outside.

Not daft at all - I read one post one here where a unit had been left outside by someone after it had a new canvas and when they collected it and took it home they found a pool of water, under the transit cover, on their new canvas, not happy bunnies I hasten to say this wasn't TVS. They have had our camper indoors during the five weeks they have had her. They don't leave any outside.
I will let you know more about the finished job tomorrow.

We now have the camper at home and TVS have done a wonderful job, it looks great . The canvas will need weathering so that it shrinks and tightens up the fibres making it waterproof and OH is desperate to put it up and leave it to get wet but I doubt if it would dry again with the weather being so changeable, so he will just have to be patient for a wee while longer. I would definitely recommend TVS, maybe not the cheapest but their workmanship is superb and Graham is a so patient and helpful. I will post some photo's as soon as we can put it up.
