Hi All

Just bought my first TT and have been assured by the guys at Camperlands that my little Saxo will tow it no problem.

But after reading loads of stuff regarding weights I'm still unclear how it all works. Can anyone clarify for me please?

Saxo kerb weight is 805kg and max. laden weight is 1310kg. Max. towing weight for unbraked trailer is 400kg.

Can I load car and trailer to these weights? I've read somewhere that loading car reduces allowed weight of trailer.

Max. train weight for unit is 1910kg

I've looked at the info on Camperlands own website which indicates the Trigano Modular weighs 280Kg unladen (310Kg for the one with kitchen).  There's no mention of the trailer having brakes so I'm assuming it doesn't have any.

Unladen weight is the weight of the unit before you put any of your camping gear in it.  You've said your car has a max unbraked towing weight of 400Kg which means you can add 120Kg of equipment to the basic trailer (or 90 Kg for the kitchen model). which would take you to the 400Kg mark.

The trailer itself can be loaded up to 495Kg max but only with a bigger tow car of course.

You could weigh all your equipment to be safe and make sure its less than 120Kg/90Kg in total.  If it's close perhaps consider taking the trailer loaded up to a weighbridge and make sure it weighs no more than 400Kg.

In your case loading the car isn't going to affect the weight of trailer you can tow.  This is because you could load the car up to its max. of 1310Kg and the trailer to the max allowed of 400Kg and the total of these would be 1310+400Kg =  1710Kg.  This is your train weight and is less than the maximum given in you post of 1910Kg.

I agree with all of the replies and would just add this. While you are ok legaly to tow you will experience loss of power on hills, so be ready for this and change gear early. Because your trailer is unbraked you are relying on your car brakes alone to stop your outfit. Well before you get to junctions start to ease off the accelerator and start to break gently (the trailer has the effect of pushing the car along, not holding it back so the braking distance is increased). Do keep a good distance between you and the car in front, if he brakes quickly you have your reaction time plus the outfits extra braking distance before you come to a stop.

Apart from that enjoy your new purchase, any problems and someone on here always seems to have an answer.
