Hi

I'm not the best one to ask about Raclet's but it seems a reasonable price with the awning and extras and as long as it's in good condition then you should be fine.

Another tip before buying any large outfit is to check with the campsites you favour to find out what the pitch sizes are.  We had a really old tt to start with which fitted into our favourite site but as we were new to camping we kept putting holes in the canvas so looked into buying a tent but as we were used to the space of the tt we were looking at a huge tent which wasn't accepted on most sites that i phoned so we gave up on that idea and ended up with a caravan, but we have space to store one.  Have you looked on your local freecycle as you will often find people giving away camping items and maybe even a tent to start you off as i think before you go spending loads of money you ought to try it.  Though with tt's you could easily get your money back.

Good Luck with your search and let us know how you get on

Jeannie

Bit concerned about the description of the ebay one. We had a Quickstop and it had the cooker and sink unit that could be put either on a shelf inside or on a kitchen unit in the awning which was optional. This one didnt have anywhere inside that the cooker/sink unit could sit so you would have to put the awning on to cook in. As far as I am concerned, the description that it is a Quickstop is wrong. A Quickstop is a (albeit very basic) folding camper that you can live in without the awning. This is a Raclet trailer tent.
Just a bit worried about why he doesnt know what he is selling.

I think if the cooker is outside unless you put up the awning you will have to always put up the awning. Some have a smaller awning which covers the cooker as well as the extension. Theres a heck of a lot of pegging in 28 foot.

Thanks again all. My feeling are that its a biiiig tent to be taking just for weekends. He's taken the interior photos from another being sold on www.thefamilytentshop.com so theyre not the actual pics of the one he's selling. I don't have a good feeling about it so i'll pass I think. Search on!!

We have used our TT for many weekend caming trips, the cabin only took  2 mins to put up and 5 to peg out and then the main awaning took about half an hour to put up so was as quick for us as any big family tent, (which with 4 kids we needed) we had running water thanks to a pump which ran off the battery. we had a toilet, very large beds and only long holidays we had a 2nd awaning which could be add to the first to mae one very large awaning, we have it listed on ebay at the min because we are moving on to a carvan, we we went for a trailer tent over the carvan when we got it for the same reasons as you but now have some where for a carvan so are moving on. other whise would be very happy in the trailer tent. hope you find the right one for you soon, good luck

Hi Fitzmum,

One other make of TT that I have n't seen mentioned yet - (I don't have one, but trhey always sound good ) is the Combi-Camper, not so much pegging out and I think you could use without the awning for the weekend, If you go second hand, you could get a lot of bits which will help with the costs, the first TT we bought came with cooker, gas, fridge, EHU, practically everything, all I had to buy was sleeping bags and plates..  I know they are expensive new but a good s/hand would be as lot cheaper,  they do different sizes.

Good luck - you will love it,  just hope we get the weather.!!..

We have a Comway Challenger TT which we bought from ebay, they are cetainly well made as this one is a 1991 model and still going strong but as we have two under 5's we find it hard work for a two nighter putting everything up. For three days it is certainly worth it and the kids love it.

That said however, you can get TT with a built in porch awaning in which you can cook and is adequate for your first night sleep. We saw one when we were looking and we rather wish we had taken it when we saw it but ho hum maybe when we upgrade this one!

I love the space we get, the kitchen already to go and a proper mattress to sleep on makes the whole camping experience much more pleasant in my book.

We chose a TT as it took such a long time to get all the camping gear (tent stuff)out of the loft and to try to stuff it in the car whereas the TT is packed up and ready to go and all we need is clothes and food and we are away - just rembering to get the cat fed it the hardest bit about it nowadays!

good luck with your hunt.

Debbie
