Hiya everybody,

Can anyone tell me if they have their spare wheel for the tt actually on the spare wheel carrier that is located underneath the tt? How would you get it out from under there if you would get a flattie on the motorway? I just couldnt imagine how my hubby would get it out from under there. Would it have to be jacked up with our small jack from the car or would he have to slide himself and his big belly underneath??!! Second thoughts no, he'd get stuck and id have no holiday as the firebrigade would have to be called!! Or worse, would i have to slide underneath? Is this possible anyway? Is the tt high enough to do this and would this be very dangerous? I cant imagine a car jack being able to do this. We couldnt tip it on its side with all our stuff in it, could we???

If anyone has had this problem before and needed to get their spare from underneath please let me know how you dealt with it. I hope it never happens but would like to know in advance what to do if it does.

Many thanks.

Andi.

The spare wheel on my f/c (Conway Challanger and Conway Cruiser) was on a bracket underneath - it was fastened with a bolt the same size as the winding nuts for the corner steadies, so you used the handle for the steadies to unfasten it - the bracket then slid out, bringing the wheel out from under the trailer.  Access was so easy, I checked the wheel every weekend before setting off.  Have a good look at how you get to the spare - it might have a similar 'easy acccess' system.  If not - do you have breakdown cover (RAC, AA?) - if so, they would change the tyre for you and carry big trolley jacks so weight is no problem.

happy camping

Being a pathetic female who`s had full AA coverage for many years without ever calling them out, I`d just phone for assistance in this situation. What a wimp I am, no?

The spare for our elderly TT (Conway Corniche) is on a bracket under the trailer. Hubby had it out to check it before our last trip. I would recommend you do the same and make sure your securing nuts haven`t frozen or anything if it`s an old TT, or has been in storage for a while. You also need to check the tyre for splits and pressure regularly. Then you`ll know what to do in an emergency to get the tyre out.

There`s no substitute for a trial run! I can get underneath our TT BTWfar enough to reach the centre anyway, and I`m quite fat. Hubby is big but not round and he can do it too. . If you`re worried about movement drop the steadies, but DON`T try to jack it up this way...this IS dangerous because they`re not designed for it.

Also it`s worth working out where the jack point on the TT is. Ours is just rear of the axle.

Regardless of whether you can get the spare wheel out with the tyre flat, you'll have to jack the chassis up anyway to get the wheel high enough to change the tyre.

I carry a bottle jack in the boot, as the car jack is stored under all the stuff in the back with the spare wheel, so for the small size that the bottle jack is, I find it more convenient.

We took our spare off the side rack and we carry it in the aisle of the trailer. so if we need it we just take the kitchen off and there's our spare.
