hello everyone- I've not been around for a fair few years- long story!!

I'm looking for info on Folding Camper's- I want to buy one but dont know a thing about them- I'm looking for one that's easy to errect as both hubby and myself have joint problems and hubby cant lift his left arm higher than his shoulder..

Were a family of between 3-5 adults- yes one week its 3 the next its 5 depending on if   the daughter and her boyfriend join us -so I need a 6 birth- the daughter does like having her own tent but isnt so keen on putting it up!!!!

My son's Autistic and we want a camper to take to a site close to London as my son Love's clock's but thats another story!

I'm used to touring caravans and changed 5yrs ago to  a static- (health reason's)

but I really do miss touring but cant afford the the cost of the static yet alone having something else but  I've been thinking of a folding camper for some time... and hopefully when the bank hands over the cheque it owe's us I should have some money to buy one......but that's where I dont have a clue where to begin...

I've a fair few items left over from the tourer but when it come's to folding camper's as much as I recognise different names of camper's I don't have a clue which is a good make and which isnt- I cant afford the £6k+ for new so i'm looking at about £2k 2nd hand...has anyone any advice ?

I know i'd want an awning but I'm looking for the easy option ...the easier the better as I know by the time we arrive on site ache's and pains and tantrum's wont leave me much energy left to spend ages trying to errect some monster...

but I also realise it wont do itself...can anyone recommend a really easy folding camper that doesnt take much effort to put up ?

And being the SNOB that I am- which camper has all the mod con's and Luxuries

i deffinetly want a Heater as I have raynauds and as we've had snow in June in the UK you can bet your life If I book a site in JUNE it will snow!!

I know I'm asking alot I want a brand new state of the art camper but dont have the funds to buy it so I'm after something that looks and feels brand new and has everything but for a fraction of the cost....

not asking for much am I ??? LOL........

hope to hear from someone soon- DL

What type of FC? We have a 1990 Dandy Destiny which is a 6 berth, we paid around £1200 for it last September. It has a gas floor heater which I love! It's PVC so you can put it away wet, there's a couple of pics on my profile. But a Dandy might not be for you. Some Dandy's (the newer ones) have a toilet cubicle etc.

You may prefer a Pennine. You could really do with looking at a few. What about a visit to Camperlands? It's not far to go. There's also a place just in to Cheshire but I can't remember the name at the moment. Something like the Camplet is easy to put up but it's a TT not a FC, no loo, only 2 beds and the kitchen's in the awning.

I'm sure they'll be plenty of ideas given to you on here though. Try looking on eBay to see pictures of different FCs as well.

Good luck in your search

Andi

PS: Someone has put a link here to BCS in Manchester with a couple of FCs on This thread

I wouldn't buy any model without having a go at putting it up yourselves. Even with gas struts there is quite a bit of grunt and stretching involved, which is OK for a fully fit person but can be a problem for others. I am
in mid sixties and have problems with knees, back, shoulders and neck. I can erect the Pathfinder, but I must admit to suffering afterwards! I wouldn't even consider trying to put the awning up, but fortunately we
don't need it. Have also had a mover fitted which helps enormously as these units are heavy and more awkward than caravans to push around. If you can find a local dealer I'm sure they will give you a demo.

All the best - don't be put off, just make sure you try before you buy if at all possible.

Al

We have a Conway Crusader with heating....late 2007 model..EHU, cooker, hob, king size beds, toilet, sink..all you have in a caravan really. The Pennine Pathfinders are similar.   I too wanted a bit of luxury after a tent!  If you look around there are some bargains..e bay is good but be v careful, or private ads like the ones in the for sale ads on here or on the Conway site (http://www.conwayowners.org.uk/folders_crusader.htm

hi we have a pennine sterling we got it last year, second hand, 2006 model with awning

wanted a bit more luxury after tenting, ours does not have a toilet or heating.

would not want a toilet in the camper (not the most private of things in a camper) as it makes the camper a little longer and if parking space is a concern then i would use site ones. also if the medical problems are as you say you would have problems with the awning I think if i had a bad back or my husband was not 6-2 we would not put up the awning. I know it sounds as if people with your problems can not put up a camper with awning but i am sure there are people who can!

after saying this it takes us 20 mins to put up the camper and another hour to do the awning and extras.

i know you live in staffordshire by your listing. could show you our camper. we live in the st7 area but don't know how to get in contact with you and don't want phone numbers on the internet.

also caseys just outside chester have them on display but don't know when they put them up think might be easter. you would have to ring them

Dandy Destiny or Dimension are 6 bed, but the Dimension hasn't been around long enough to get prices down to your budget.  As said by Tunstallwood, Dandys come with a gas heater, many have insulated walls & roof, & they are all made from PVC which can be packed away wet.  Look at Riva Leisure.  Enjoy the trip to Woolwich!
