Sorry if this is a bit complicated Wonder if anyone can help

i dont know which dandy you have,

but you should not have to put the roof up manually, its a folding camper,

the flapping end of the roof,is attatched to the second bed [by 4 loops of elastic, i leave ours attatched]that you flip over thus lifting the roof,

the strings are also attatched to each bed, to lift the poles that clip onto the door,

some people attatch them oneach time,i have ours permenantly attatched at the right length to hold the poles up at the door position, and sneak the sides round them on errection,

its all a bit complicated to explain in words ,but with a few others chipping in with their experiances it will become clearer of the options,

Hi Eleanor,

I'm not one of the experienced peeps art b might be thinking about, but if you are a member of the dandy owners group on yahoo there is  an extremely helpful photographic guide to set up by Sirgentalot.   I've found it very useful even though I have a Dandy 6.

http://autos.groups.yahoo.com/group/dandyowners/

We leave the elastics attached on ours too, then quickly attach a bungee from the little eyelet in the centre of the roof to the buttons on the trailer to keep the roof up while we fiddle inside and out.

I hope that makes some sense!

Eleanor

There should be four strings, one attached at the top either side of the two hoop shaped poles.  The loose end of each string has a small loop in it and these are attached to the blue buttons on the beds - the same ones used to tie the roof edge rope to.

When the beds are turned over the strings will lift the roof up.  They should be of a length so the poles are held in a position where the wooden door/window sections will clear them.

After the roof and the walls are up the strings are released from the buttons to allow the poles to slot into the brackets on the wooden walls.  When the camper is folded down the reverse procedure is done so the strings get put back on the buttons again.

The elastics at the end of the roof are attached once the roof and walls are up and then unattached before folding down.  If they're left I'm pretty sure the roof material will end up under the bed rather than where it should be which is folded up on the back of the top bed.  I believe that's different to the 6 berth ones.

It's all a bit difficult to explain.  It would be useful to get someone demonstrate for you.   You're welcome to come and see us put ours up and down but there are probably owners nearer to you.

Steve

When we got ours in September last year, these strings had us really confused until we found out that they were the wrong length! I'm not sure how the previous owners had managed. We cut new strings that were the right length and Stevie's explanation pretty much explains how it works, we've only put ours up a few times so would love a Dandy meet for some expert tips if anyone's interested. Which reminds me we still need to join the Dandy Owners Club does anyone know if the membership is still £15?
