Yeh, most sites accept trailer tents, always mention if you need a hook up when booking and that you wish to use an awning as they will need to put you on a big enough pitch and charge you acordingly, happy camping!

Can anyone answer this question? i have just bought a new sunncamp 400, but when booking into a site i was asked if i was putting up an awning, i said no, because i think it is just like a large frame tent even though you have to zip on the living area if you are staying for a few days, am i wrong or is it classed as an awning... i`m rather puzzled about this!!!!!!

Hi Susu,

The trailer tent is the part you open up and sleep in, the extra living area as you call it is the awning so the answer is yes you are using an awning.

Hope this answers your question,

Happy camping,

Ian.

Just tell them it's a trailer tent and be prepared to quote dimensions. Yes strictly speaking it's a tent plus awning but in practice you need the outer area for living in, so it's not like an optional awning such as caravans use and it's not normal practice to be charged for it when using a TT as it's integral. Some TT awnings don't even zip off, btw, so it's not like they're optional. Don't get them muddled up with folding campers, which are more related to caravans in their pitching requirements.

Also you need to peg down so once again, you don't want to be on a hard standing area you can't peg through. (Non-pegging FCs can use caravan hard standings, usually.) You don't really want gravel or rock under the undertent groundsheets though, so grass pitches are preferable.

Beauty of a TT is that most sites really quite like them because they're a nice neat shape and they look attractive.

TTs & FCs don't usually consider the awning as a separate unit.  As Val says have a note of the size of the footprint to hand when booking.  You will usually be charged as a tent.
