Hiya Everybody,

I collected my (used) Fiesta Sunday, and as I had a Pullman before, I was surprised that there wasn't any 240v electrical sockets.  The man I bought it off included his hook up lead, which connects to a short lead that has a hook up connection at one end, and just one 'regular' socket the other end, which he used for the fridge.  I will be taking a portable tv, and a low watt lamp.  In my Pullman I also took a kettle, and a very small microwave, and it was always fine, but it did have real plugs and fuse box.

SO my question is, will it be safe to plug a regular household extension lead into that one socket? I've looked at mains installation kits, but they seem kind of expensive, but I've noticed they also have trip switches, which is what made me wonder if just using an extension lead will be safe. I'd be horrified if I blew the camps electric or something!

By the way, I'm trying it out at Haven this weekend, they have half price deals, I got 3 nights - inc electricity and passes, £27.50!

Thanks in advance, and for the other questions you've answered, it's just all new to me again! lol

Jules

Hi Jules a lot of Fiestas came with no electrics but strangley a fridge. Over the past 25 years I have fitted eletrics in all my Caravans & campers it is not to bad to do if you have a DIY mind, shame your not closer.

Hi 'Sterling 1999'

Thanks for the reply, did you use a kit, (I was looking at the one in tow sure, £69.99)

The thing I am worried about, is I haven't any chance of sorting out the electricity before Friday, when I go away for three nights, so will have to use the hook up the previous owner gave me, (the one with just one regular house type socket).  I was going to put and extension lead in it, as the fridge has to be on all the time, I wanted to take a low energy saving lamp to use after dark, but then just have one other item on at a time, ie Tele OR kettle, not both.  Do you think that would be ok?  I did post another topic, as I'd forgotten to include it here, the camper didn't come with a leisure battery, so is it a special battery or could I just use a car battery?

Once agian, thanks for the reply.

Jules

Hi derek

I went for a mooch around Jackson's the day.  You said you bought your wiring kit from B&Q, was it for caravans/campers etc?  There is a large B&Q a few miles away, so may go and have a look.  That's a good idea about using the plug for mower, but I usually borrow my ex Father-in-laws....will see if he will lend it to me, but if I explain why I need it, he will have kittens, and worry about his grand son all weekend!

Easiest way to do it is to buy a camping EHU which has the necessary RCD & MCCB in it, about £40 from any camping retailer, Jacksons have them. Just plug it in one end and you have 3 sockets all ready for use at the other. I wouldn't use the lead you got with the camper, it really isn't a safe way of doing it. This is what you need:

Mains Kits

When you move on you can either include it with the sale or keep to  use in your next unit if it doesn't have mains wired in, or you could fix it permanently in the Fiesta.

Hi Bordercarz,

I had a look for one, and in Argos they are a staggering £99.99, on ebay around £55 inc p&p, However I've order one from

http://www.waudbys.co.uk/products/details/15238.html

£39.99 + p&p which starts from £5.25 I think (up to 5 day delivery)

Since ordering I have seen them on Tow Sure website for £49, just in case anybody reading this wants one.

Thanks for the advice.

Jules
